We’re big fans of Twitter. We use it to tell you about our homestays, hosts and blog posts and to chat to likeminded people about the thing we all love – travel. So with this in mind, we’re starting our very own Twitter travel chat called #Homestaychat focusing on local travel tips in a different destination each time.

The first chat will take place this coming Monday at 8pm GMT / 4pm ET / 1pm PT. The theme of the first chat is London.

Every two weeks after that we’ll host a chat focusing on a different destination each time. Each chat will feature regular hosts – our own @Homestaycom Twitter account, Laurence Norah aka @Lozula of FindingTheUniverse.com, Gina Tarnacki aka @OneDayinaCity of OneDayinaCity.com, travel blogger Sarahlynn Pablo aka @sarahlynnpablo, and of course me @colmhanratty.

This week we will also have two guest hosts with Laura Porter aka @AboutLondon of About.com’s London Guide and Amanda Williams aka @dangerousbiz of Dangerous-Business.com.

What is a Twitter chat?

A Twitter chat is a discussion around a certain topic at a certain time on the world’s favourite micro-blogging site. To join in, you follow one (or all) of the above hosts, then answer the questions they will tweet at specific times. The chat will last one hour and have six different questions – one being asked every six minutes.

When will #Homestaychat take place?

The inaugural #Homestaychat will take place on Monday, 24th March at 8pm GMT / 4pm ET / 1pm PT. Each #Homestaychat will take place at the same time every two weeks.

What will #Homestaychat be about?

The first #Homestaychat will focus on London. We’ll ask for your top tips on where to eat, your favourite neighbourhoods and more. The first question will be tweeted by your hosts at 8pm/3pm/1pm, then every six minutes after that.

What if you haven’t been to London?

If you haven’t been to London, this is the perfect way to pick up travel tips about one of the world’s greatest cities from people who know it best - simply by following the hashtag #Homestaychat.
