In the hills of Burbank, LA host Kris lives in one of the most famous locations in the world, close to Hollywood studios. Her homestay offers the best city life and a quiet get away. Burbank is home to several of the famous movie studios, including Warner Bros and Walt Disney and has the feel of a local neighbourhood within the greater city of Los Angeles.

Kris has travelled all over the world is as familiar being a guest as she is a host. It was her experiences staying in homestays when travelling that motivated her to sign up as a host.

Kris, tell us about yourself. What are your interests and hobbies?

I see myself as a student of life. I travel and learn as much as I can about the world around me. I've been to 15 countries, lived in New York, San Francisco, England, Paris and LA, and traveled across the US by rail. I also love all things artistic. I try to get to the movies and go to concerts and museums at least once a week. My interests vary from salsa dancing and rock climbing to film-making and gardening.

Why did you sign up as a host on Homestay.com?

As a traveler, people were always opening their homes to me. It was those encounters, not the cheesy tourist attractions that really opened my eyes to the world around me and gave me the most life-changing experiences. I wanted the opportunity to do for others what had been so graciously done for me many, many times over. In addition, my mother has had exchange students for 7 years and it has brought her a lot of joy and enlightenment.

What for you has been the most memorable experience of being a host?

The great people that I've met, the languages I've learned and the cultural exchange. It's one thing to read about people from other places but it's a true experience when you can interact with them, and hear about their values and lifestyles for yourself. I've also gotten to see parts of LA I might not have ever seen. I was inspired to view my own city with new eyes.

What can people expect when they stay with you?

A REAL, safe, fun home. I really go above (and maybe beyond for guests) as I think it's important that they get to really test out the waters of LA. It's a huge city, easy to get lost and stuck in. I'm an explorer and a native so my knowledge of the city is pretty vast. They would experience someone that wants to give them a true LA experience and genuinely wants to learn more about their culture in order to grow.

What would you say to anyone thinking of signing up to Homestay.com?

Do it now. Do it fast.
