After being moved to the Yellow room midstay we left. This room has been converted to a bedroom and thus has no soundproofing qualities. You may as well be trying to sleep in the loungeroom. Do not ask the host to turn the tv down at 11pm - that will get you accused of stealing eggs, intimidated and asked to leave with no refund. I have never had such an appalling experience in my life.

    Host reply
Homestay Host Family Melissa in ,

This recent experience with Nola nearly made me quit doing Homestay.
I decided not to quit because I love being a host and I understand that guests like Nola compromise fewer than 5% of guests.
Most guests are a real pleasure to host and so lovely to share our space and time with. Not so with Nola.
Nola is the only guest we have ever had who took our belongings without asking.
In addition she was hypercritical of everything and extremely rude.
She complained about the bed in the first room she stayed in and boasted to us of how she once forced a motel to bring her a new mattress because she is always so particular.
She seemed intent on looking for things to be critical about and then pointing her findings out to us as aggressively and rudely as possible.
Nola had no qualms about raising her voice to my husband and demanding that he ‘go to bed’ and ‘stop being so inconsiderate’ when he was watching a movie on television upstairs.
Nola was just pushing boundaries and making us uncomfortable the whole time.
When we finally confronted her to outline our minimum requirements for guest behaviour she responded with more aggression and threats.
I was blown away that a guest would fight in order to maintain an attitude like hers instead of modifying her behaviour at our request.
We gave her an ultimatum, our rules or you must leave. Nola left of her own accord, we did not evict her.

A great house located in a nice quiet spot near to the sea. Handy for road links to City or exploring the coastline and beaches to the South and north. A pleasant cycle path/walkway runs adjacent to the house allowing a gentle walk or ride to Manly, to the South or a nature reserve to the north. Host's very 'hands off' and it felt at times as though we were the only occupiers, which was great.
Well worth considering for a break.

How do I book?
