Know where to go in Dubrovnik after dark

You could use many words to describe Dubrovnik, but stunning is the most apt. As you first arrive into its old town and walk along its smooth, marble tiles, you’ll be in awe of its beauty. If I could only visit one city for the rest of my life and it was Dubrovnik, I would be happy.

Something you’ll also notice about this city on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast is that once it hits midnight, the streets are the emptiest they’ve been all day. The bars along the main strip ‘Placa’ (also called ‘Stradun’) quieten down and the majority of people retire for the evening so as to be up early to enjoy the sweltering sun the next day.

But Dubrovnik isn’t as quiet as it might seem. Do a bit of exploring and you’ll stumble upon a host of bars that are open until the early hours. Here are eight to look out for…

2D’Vino Wine Bar, Palmoticeva 4a Dubrovnik, Old Town

This little bar, just off the the main street of Dubrovnik is a great place to taste the local Croatian wine......#croatia

A far tamer affair than the aforementioned backpacker haunt is D’Vino Wine Bar, a quaint establishment tucked down one of the old town’s characteristic alleyways. It boasts the largest wine collection in the city, so if you’re one who likes to try a smooth Malbec before moving on to a full-bodied Merlot, this is the place for you.

When in Dubrovnik, party here...!!

Located just outside the old town’s walls at Pile Gate, this nightclub has been one of the most popular late night haunts in Dubrovnik for years. It’s got stages for dancing on, dancefloors to do the same thing if you’re concerned about injuring yourself, and a large outdoor terrace out the back. It’s a fun place that’s worth trying at least once.

6Café Buza I & II

I could spend the next six lines explaining where these bars are (they’re also known as ‘The Hole in the Wall’ as that’s literally what they are), but instead I’m going to ask you to do this – ask a local for directions. Once you do and you find one or both of them (one is as nice as the other), you’ll understand why they’re so popular. It’s hard to think of as nice a bar to enjoy a few ‘sundowners’ as either of these two. Don’t leave without doing your homework and locating them. They’re pretty special.

7EastWest, Frana Supila 4

If it’s a late night you’re looking for, but not one that will entail jumping up and down on tables or drinking from buckets all night, eastwest is the place for you. By far the most sophisticated of all of Dubrovnik’s after-dark haunts, here there are beds to laze on, a small dancefloor to display your moves on, while the sea is on your doorstep if you fancy seeing the stars from a different perspective.
