When Alice signed up as a host on Homestay.com earlier this year, she thought back to her childhood in Canada. Alice explained that “growing up in Canada there were often people staying with us from different countries. We had two Vietnamese boat people stay with us for two years.” A Swiss friend of her father’s was also a regular house guest and Alice grew up with a culture of hosting and welcoming people into her home.

Having left Canada, Alice now lives with her 22 year old daughter Aurora in the Logan district of Brisbane Australia where they share their detached, four bedroom home with their three cats, Tiffy, Chelsea and Tilly. Mornings are spent enjoying a coffee on the balcony of their two story detached home, where Alice’s keen interest in the birds that live in her garden has grown. She can now even feed a kookaburra by hand in her garden!

As a guest in Alice and Aurora’s home you’ll get to explore the beauty and wildlife of their hometown. Alice loves to take walks in the Mount Coot-tha bushland park, feeding the lizards along her walk route and enjoying the views from the lookout point, while Aurora is happy to help show guests around their neighbourhood as well as more practical things, such as how to take the bus downtown or to other areas. Alice told us that any guest who stays with them is treated like a member of the family, whether that means enjoying a family barbecue with them, helping them with their homework or having a look around the market and boutiques of nearby Mount Tambourine.

Alice works as a sign-language interpreter and both she and her daughter are fluent in Auslan, the Australian form of sign language. A homestay with them will give you the peace and serenity of their suburban home, complete with salt-water swimming pool and breakfast included (a feature of all homestays listed on our website) while still providing excellent links to the CBD of Brisbane.

Send Alice a booking request to reserve your homestay with her from only €18 per night or browse our listings of all our homestays in Brisbane.
