Our culture is very different here than in the west, so modesty is a must. The locals are very sensitive with public kissing, and clothes must be worn around the house (no walking around in underwear). Smoking and drinking are allowed, we may have some beers with my friends!
Smoking is allowed outdoors only.
Really enjoyed staying with a local family and seeing local life. A definite bonus to our stay in Cambodia
Thank you Maden, Sophon, Hen, and children for having me in your home and extending such thoughtful and kind hospitality to me. It was a wonderful couple of days, and you made my experience in Cambodia one that I will not forget.
To those considering Real Home Stay, do it! To be patron to and support a family while you are a guest in their homeland is a meaningful, significant opportunity. You will find the true beauty of Cambodian life, as well as learn the stresses of life, and observe the incredible resilience of the Cambodian people. With a beautiful landscape (including fantastic sunrises and sunsets), a very warm and welcoming family, delicious garden fresh, home cooked food, and a chance to see the real ways of Cambodian life you will leave with a full heart!
P.s. The fan is as a ceiling fan, over the bed, and there is a mosquito net and the mattress was comfortable so my sleeps were very great!
A unique, traditional, Cambodian homestay that was exactly what I was hoping for when I signed up with Maden and family. They took care of transport to and from the airport, around the Angkor Wat complex, and meals and drink for my entire stay. Maden and family were beyond friendly and welcoming from the moment I first contacted to leaving Cambodia. They love practicing English and the kids are a joy to be around. I was sad to be leaving them on my last day for sure.
It was a great experience to stay at the homestay of Maden. He was the best host en we talked for a long time about his personal story and other interesting things. The family is really welcoming and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place!
It is a wonderful place, we stayed one week with Madens family, if we wouldn't have to continue, we could have easily stayed one more week with them.
He did take care of everything, was very open-minded and knows a lot about the needs of western tourists. Also whatever you want to know about Cambodian culture, tourism and history, you can always ask him.
He was cooking fresh food from the market every day for us before we could even tell him, that we were hungry. It was the best food we did get in all of our trip across southeast-asia.
The place is very very calm and authentic, there is enough bathrooms for everyone even if there are several more tourists, nobody has to wait for his/her shower.
Maden can organise everything together with his neighbour the best tuk-tuk-driver of Cambodia Angkor-Wat, Floating Village, Museums, Silk-Farm, etc. all of it is just there wating for you.
And if you just came to relax - you are just at the best place for it!
We were so grateful for the time we could spend at Madens place and were very sad to leave.
It was wonderful to be a guest, in the true sense of the word, of Maden and his beautiful family. This became a unique opportunity to experience the authentic Cambodian village lifestyle. The family speak excellent English and are generous in sharing insights into their daily lives and Cambodian culture. All the meals provided were delicious and shared with other guests and of course family members and there was lots of chatting and laughs. Their home is in a rural area and facilities are authentic to such a place. Reliable Tut-tut drivers were available for transport if you needed, I chose just to relax in the hammock!
We left Maden's place with heavy hearts and tears in our eyes. What a wonderful two days. I can recommend this Homestay to everyone, my three children (12, 9 and 7) refused to leave, I had to promise we'd be back and we will! Thank you so much Maden, his wonderful daughters, Richard and of course Pani! A highlight of Cambodia!
This guest awarded the host 4 hearts but didn’t leave any comments.
Maden and his family and friends are lovely. He looked after my 12 y.o. son and me and we are so grateful. Best wishes to him for working so hard to make his home even more beautiful.
If you are looking to dive deep into the culture and life of Cambodia, Maden and his Homestay is the place for you! Maden and his family couldn't be more welcoming and they are more than happy to share about local traditions, history and anything else with you. The food they cooked for us was delicious and traditional Khymer recipes! Maden took us to the local market, where we couldn't take our eyes off things that were completely unfamiliar to us. One day we went for a walk through the fields and the village with Maden's daughter and we really enjoyed the beautiful rural landscape and watching the kids of the village play! Maden's tuk tuk driver Rechart happily took us anywhere and we had fun playing cards with him as well : ) He is so reliable and you never have to worry about getting ripped off by him which by that stage was like a breath of fresh air to us! The Homestays' location is perfect, it's out on the country, in a village, OFF THE BEATEN TRACK (!!!) yet close enough so you can easily immerse yourself in all the tourist activities like exploring the ruins of Angkor, head out in Pub Street or to the floating village on nearby lake Tonle Sap.
