Our culture is very different here than in the west, so modesty is a must. The locals are very sensitive with public kissing, and clothes must be worn around the house (no walking around in underwear). Smoking and drinking are allowed, we may have some beers with my friends!
Smoking is allowed outdoors only.
Maden and his family and friends are lovely. He looked after my 12 y.o. son and me and we are so grateful. Best wishes to him for working so hard to make his home even more beautiful.
If you are looking to dive deep into the culture and life of Cambodia, Maden and his Homestay is the place for you! Maden and his family couldn't be more welcoming and they are more than happy to share about local traditions, history and anything else with you. The food they cooked for us was delicious and traditional Khymer recipes! Maden took us to the local market, where we couldn't take our eyes off things that were completely unfamiliar to us. One day we went for a walk through the fields and the village with Maden's daughter and we really enjoyed the beautiful rural landscape and watching the kids of the village play! Maden's tuk tuk driver Rechart happily took us anywhere and we had fun playing cards with him as well : ) He is so reliable and you never have to worry about getting ripped off by him which by that stage was like a breath of fresh air to us! The Homestays' location is perfect, it's out on the country, in a village, OFF THE BEATEN TRACK (!!!) yet close enough so you can easily immerse yourself in all the tourist activities like exploring the ruins of Angkor, head out in Pub Street or to the floating village on nearby lake Tonle Sap.
I absolutely loved my stay with Maden and his family and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Siem Reap. You get to experience Cambodia off the touristy trails and I learned a lot from Maden about the history and people of Cambodia, which enriched my travels tremendously. Plus his little son might be the best little travel guide you'll find. It felt like staying at a friend's house and I hope I'll be able to come back soon.
My husband and I stayed with Maden and his family for one night and we absolutely loved our experience. Maden's family is kind and accommodating. They made us three beautiful meals (dinner the night we arrived and then breakfast and lunch the following day). Maden talk us about Cambodian history and we really enjoyed talking to him about his own family's history. Maden's two youngest children took us on a walk through the fields around the house where we got to meet the neighbors, pick flowers, and check out the water buffalo. We had a nice bed with a mosquito net where we slept well. All in all, it was a really relaxing stay that gave us a window into rural Cambodian life that we would not otherwise have been able to get. I would highly recommend staying with Maden any time!
Thanks for your help,
Was an absolutely amazing experience, the Madden family is extremely hospitable and provided an extremely authentic experience. Highly recommend this home stay for anyone looking for a traditional Cambodian experience!!
Maden's family and friends are wonderful! They took care of us, offering us good company all the time. The area was amazing, the food was really good and the room was comfortable. Besides we had a tuktuk driver available for us all day! It is a totally reccommendable experience to live with locals, learn from them and discover the real Cambodia!
We stayed with Maden and his family for two nights and it was great. They are incredibly kind and helped us with all our plans we tried to make. As the Homestay is a bit away from the city it wasn't like a hostel or backpackers where we stayed before. It's in between rice fields and just two little houses where you can sleep and eat. It's really nice and calm and a great place to get away from the busy city. To get to Angkor wat or other places we wanted to go, Maden had a driver provided for us that brought us everywhere we wanted to go. He made our time there even better by being one of the kindest people we met on our trip and a great driver as well.
I can really recommend this Homestay and hope lots of you choose Maden as tapir place to stay.
We stayed with Maden for about two days and absolutely loved it! After spending two nights in Siem Reap, we wanted to escape the busy, touristic side of town and head towards the countryside for a more local, quite stay and we got exactly what we asked for! Maden and his family were so kind and generous. The bed was comfy, the mosquito nets did their job well and the traditional Khmer food Maden's wife cooked for us was delicious.
I would definitely go again!
An authentic Cambodian homestay experience. Maden was a very gracious host who was always available to answer any question or to help organize outings. The food here, cooked mainly by Madens wife was always plentiful and very good. There was always family, friends and other guests around. to converse with. This was a delightful place to stay. Chris
