Your family in Medellin!

I had the pleasure of staying with Johannah and her mom for three weeks, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. They were incredibly kind and welcoming, always inviting me to join them on outings and even family gatherings, making me feel like part of their family. They were also very patient and supportive as I practiced my Spanish, which made me feel comfortable and encouraged to improve. I highly recommend staying with them—you’ll feel right at home!

Yamile was so lovely and welcoming, she even made me a vegan dinner despite running late to her bingo night and it being her first time making a vegan meal! The room is big, clean, and very comfortable with a nice private bathroom and a balcony with views over Medellin. Everyone in the neighbourhood was very friendly and Johanna helped my taxi driver find her place despite her being all the way in Australia! Highly recommend this homestay if you're ever in Medellin :)

I had a wonderful time here, almost 4 weeks all up, and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay with lovely local people in a cool local suburb. Yamile and Joanna are kind hearted good people, and will make you feel at home and looked after here. Yamile cooks delicious Colombian food and Joanna will recommend you great places to visit. It was a very special experience staying in La Milagrosa and I will come back to visit again hopefully. Thank you Yamile and Joanna, I felt extremely lucky to stay and be part of a wonderful family

Nunca podría creer que yo tendría tan rara experiencia viajado. Fue mi primera vez usando homestay, y es posible que será la mejor lugar que queda en mi viaje. Yamile es una persona bonitos afuera y al dentro, y fue un placer a pasar tiempo con ella. Es muy paciente, y habla con el deseo que yo entiendo. Mi meta por mi tiempo fue a practicar mi español, entonces estoy con mucha gratitud para tanto tiempo con Yamile. Pero con las invitaciones con familia y grupos, y en compartir su manera de vida, recibí muchísima más que la idioma. Aunque Johanna no estaba allí, puso mucho trabajo en ayudando con plans. Me envió mensajes para ver cómo pasó todo y que necesitaba. Es una persona increíble y me divertí hablando sobre cada cosa con ella—me alegraría a conocerle cuando es posible. Con sus amigos yo tenía experiencias de una vez en la vida que nunca olvidaré. Yo siento como un pedazo de mi corazón quedará aquí en Antioquia, y espero que yo regresará en el futuro.

I could never believe I would have such a unique travel experience. It was my first time using a homestay and it may be the best place I have ever stayed. Yamile is a beautiful person inside and out, and it was a pleasure to spend time with her. She is very patient and speaks with the hope that I understand. My goal for my time was to practice my Spanish, so I am very grateful for so much time with Yamile. But with the invitations with family and groups, and in sharing her way of life, I received much more than the language. Even though Johanna wasn't there, she put a lot of work into helping with plans. She sent me messages to see how everything happened and what I needed. She is an amazing person and I had fun talking about everything with her—I would be happy to meet her when possible. With her friends I had once in a lifetime experiences I will never forget. I feel like a piece of my heart will remain here in Antioquia, and I hope that I will return in the future.

je suis très content de mon séjour. La chambre est très bien, assez grande , il y a un balcon. yamille (la maman de johanna) , est très réactive lorsqu'on lui envoit des what's app et toujours prête à aider et conseiller. Le quartier est populaire et sympathique , a 15 minutes à pieds on est tranquillement vers une rame de TRAM qui nous amène facilement en ville. Ensuite pour le reste c'est très facile de se déplacer. L'appartement est bien équipé , il y a tous ce qu'il faut.

Such an amazing host and family. Johanna and her mother are wonderful people and treated me like family. Johanna took time out of her days to show me around the city and taught me a lot. I truly enjoyed my time in Medellín. If you're looking for a place to stay look no further, this is where you want to be!

Un anfitrión y una familia increíbles. Johanna y su madre son personas maravillosas y me trataron como de la familia. Johanna sacó tiempo de sus días para mostrarme la ciudad y me enseñó mucho. Realmente disfruté de mi tiempo en Medellín. Si estás buscando un lugar para alojarte no busques más, ¡aquí es donde quieres estar!

Estas buscando una experiencia authentica con una familia columbiana, no solo una habitacion? Ya encontraste esta! No tu vas a vivir en la casa de Yamile, Juan Carlos y Johanna, tu vas a vivir con la familia! Puedes disfrutar la comida deliciosa de Yamile, visitar los lugares interesantes en y cerca de Medellín con Johanna y jugar futbol en un campo de futbol con Juan Pablo, que es un arquero fenomenal. Ademas, no nececitas dudar en pedir por ayuda cuando tienes problemas (y yo tuvé muchas, mil gracias Johanna!), la familia va a respaltar en estas. La casa es en un barrio tranquilo, pero el ruido de la bar en la esquina y de los gallos te pueden molestar a veces. Sin embargo no te preocupes, es parte de la vida en un barrio de Medellín. La habitacion se mismo es perfecto con una cama grande, un televisor y tu propia teraza y baño. A mi me gustan los momentos en la casa y con la familia mucho y recommiendo escoger este homestay quando quieres una familia colombiana a tu lado.

For all the English speakers here: If you are looking for an authentic place to stay in Medellin, do look no further than this. Johanna, Yamile and Juan Pablo invite you to live with them, not only to live in their house. You will enjoy the privacy you need in your own nice and comfy room (be prepared for some noise from a nearby bar or cocks though) that comes with TV, your own bathroom as well as a balcony facing the barrio and offering views of the city, but can join the family life just downstairs not just for the delicious meals prepared by Yamile for small money. Especially if you are looking for some Spanish practice, there is no better way than to just chat away as everyone is very patient and Johanna even speaks presentable English. Juan and Yamile will barely understand you when speaking English, but are happy to be taught some phrases, too. If you like, your experience does not end in the typical small house in the authentic and safe neighbourhood. Johanna may offer to show you the city, take you to places on her moto where you like to go in and close by Medellin. Also,Yamile might invite you to typical dancing meetings or reunions and Juan Pablo will play soccer with everyone who is up for it (he is a fantasic goalie by the way).
In any case, there is no way that you will not enjoy the time with this super friendly family, that fancies soccer just as much as I did (make sure you support the best club in all Colombia, Atleticó Nacional, though ;D). Most of all, I felt well in good hands with all my troubles mostly regarding a blocked credit card and sim card (in case you do buy one in Colombia, make sure you register online, trust me, it is better that way ;D). In general, I felt verry comfortable with having a local family who I could trust and that supported me from day one.

The past month spent with Johanna and Yamile has been nothing short of amazing. They both welcomed me into their home with open arms. I didn’t speak a word of Spanish but they were both extremely patient with me and always willing to help. I was always invited along to family events, which allowed me the chance to practice my spanish.
The room itself is great, comfortable bed, own bathroom and balcony. Allowed me to have my own privacy.
La Milagrosa is a nice local town, a real Colombian experience. Also really easy access to the metro.
Johanna is incredible. She is kind, fun and so generous. An experience I am so glad I had and I will never forget them, my Colombian family! I am going to miss them so much and I can’t wait to return to Medellin so I can stay with them again. Much love x
