Marlene was a wonderful hostess. She was very helpful with bus schedules, taxi pickups and arranging tours for us. On Saturday we were able to accompany her to the farmers' market, experiencing an aspect Costa Rican life we would have otherwise missed. The meals Marlene prepared for us were delicious, with fresh fruits and vegetables. While in Costa Rica, I had some dental surgery, and Marlene went out of her way to prepare food according to the recommendations of the dentist. Very accommodating.
My stay with Marlene was nice and I recommend staying with her if you want a homely stay. She accompanied me to the Central Market, prepared traditional Costa Rican dinners and arranged for early taxi pick ups when I needed.
Bon accueil, excellente cuisine, très disponible, propre
If I have a chance to go back Costa Rica, I will stay in her house again.
I had a wonderful experience with Marlene. I stayed with her twice. Once for 3 months and then again for the weekend. Marlene makes sure that you are taken care of and you feel safe. The breakfast is fresh fruit everyday. Marlene is a great person to have conversations with, you can learn all about Costa Rica and really up your Spanish with her because she was a Spanish teacher! Marlene felt like my second mom, she is a lovely, caring, kind lady. Her is beautiful and has a garden with butterflies and rabbits. I live in Costa Rica now and we still talk to this day! I will go to her house again maybe for a weekend just to hang out with her, that's how awesome she is. Thank you Marlene for everything, mi tica familia! Un brazo!
My stay with Marlene was a memorable experience, Marlene has a natural motherly instinct and puts extra effort into making sure that all her guests are well taken care of. She knows her country well and is very helpful with booking transportation, and in planning excursions, She is very easy to talk to and I felt as if I had known her a long time. She makes a special effort to make her guests feel at home and I felt very honoured to have been included in some private family events. Breakfast was always very nicely presented and I had the pleasure of having several suppers with her, she is an excellent cook, and would not hesitate to stay with her again, should I ever re visit Costa Rica, Thank you Marlene from the bottom of my heart, you are a wonderful woman, I adore you.
Would reiterate all the positive comments about staying with Marlene! So lovely, amazing cook, took us to a local village festival on Sunday which was such a great experience and only knew about because of her local knowledge. Also a former Spanish teacher so that's a plus!
I had the best time in Costa Rica thanks to Marlene. She was so helpful and kind. I can't wait to go back. Her cooking is excellent. I ate breakfast and paid extra for dinner. it was totally worth it not just for the food but the conversation. I enjoyed so much coming home form excursions to a home cooked meal and company. She is an amazing woman. My trip would have not been the same without her:)
We stayed with Marlene three times during our 3 week tour of Costa Rica.
Marlene was always welcoming and helpful.
Her breakfasts were delicious especially her homemade jam!
evening meals were extra but also good and very reasonable.
Her son Max speaks excellent English, was a mine of local information and would be pleased to arrange tours.
