Marlene was exceptional. Her home; a botanical oasis and one that travelers looking for serenity about 20 minutes outside San Jose will appreciate. She has an incredible friend named Francisco who is a local driver in the country. You are sure to have a very safe ride to and from the airport and anywhere else you want to go! The public transit, is right down the road, very convenient but do your homework in advance as the lines are a little confusing but so worth the cost. I can’t say enough about Marlene; a loving soul who has deep love for Costa Rica, botanicals and makes a breakfast to get your day started just right. A cozy place to call home while in Costa Rica. Thank you Marlene for such a wonderful trip and for me, the first time out of the country :) Pura Vida!
Marlene is truly a fantastic hostess! I would recommend her to anyone especially if you are in San Jose for the first time like I was. On the day I arrived she went with me on the bus to downtown San Jose and helped me become familiar with the area. It really eased my anxiety especially since I was traveling alone. She is also great if you are practicing your spanish since she will speak slowly and clearly when talking with you. Her house is very secure and very beautiful, and only a short 3 minute walk to the bus stop. If I am in CR again I'll definitely have to stay with her again!
Takes a while to get to the centre but worth the effort to stay in a home from home. Marlene is a gem.
Marlene is very friendly. She made us feel home from the first minute.
Marlene is a fantastic hostess. She is very sweet, helpful, and would do anything for you. Her English is pretty good, and she is a great Spanish teacher. I have truly enjoyed my stay here. I believe I have made a friend for life.
Her home is very beautiful. She has chickens, baby chicks sometimes. There are beautiful flowers everywhere. I felt right at home in her house. It was very comfortable.
If you are looking for something different from the usual hotel, you cannot go wrong with this beautiful home and hostess. She is one of a kind. Full immersion in a tica home was a great choice.
Marlene is a lovely lady and her breakfasts and dinners are wonderful although I did not eat dinner here I saw what she prepared and the other guest said they were wonderful. When I booked this house it said on the map that it was in a different location closer to downtown but infact it was a ways out of the city. I was told by the owner not to walk in certain areas near the house so my daily run was not considered safe. I stayed for 19 days but was supposed to stay for a month but I had problems sleeping with the dogs barking and the 4 roosters sceaching at 1 2 3 in the morning. She is a lovely host and is happy to take her guests on all sorts of tours, simply a beautiful lady. As a guest I cleaned my room and bathroom also did the laundry of my bed before I left, also cleaned the dishes in the kitchen many night after dinner and breakfast dishes to thank her for the time she spent showing me around.
