Rent one or more of my nice and quiet rooms in a large and sunny 3 bedroom apartment. This is a very quiet and safe area, but within easy walking distance to downtown (4 short bus stops or approx. 10-15 min walk) and Barrio Escalante with many cafes, bars and restaurants.

We can accommodate 1 through 7 people easily.
Medical Stay - Students - 1 month plus welcome.
We are LBGT friendly.
We speak English - Spanish - German.

For those that are hesitant to explore Costa Rica by themselves or don't want to fight bureaucracy alone, we sometimes offer travel assistance for a reasonable daily rate.

THE SPACE

● 2 of our rooms face the backyard and if you are lucky and wake up at the right moment, you'll see a hummingbird fly by. Instead of traffic noise you will wake up hearing the birds chirping.

● Start the day with a leisurely breakfast, that comes with fresh fruit, a good cup of coffee or tea, real bread and marmalade or cereal.

● We have a large colorful living room with large windows letting in a lot of sunlight, which really is the place to sit and relax, read a book and check the e-mails and plan out your trip.

● Wifi works fast and reliable throughout the apartment.

● If you don't speak any Spanish or little, no problem. We also speak English and German. French is rusty, but I have a neighbor that can help if needed.

● I have tons of books around, bring one and leave another one.

● In case of any questions, just ask and I'll be happy to answer them.

● You get use of the kitchen and washing machine and if needed you can surf on one of our computers. The bathroom is shared

● We love to share and enjoy common meals. We can toss a coin who cooks. We have been on trips, walked downtown and hung out in the local bars, but we respect the space and silence just the same.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

● Our barrio is Los Yoses and we have some great restaurants (excellent Vegetarian restaurant called Mantras very close by) and bars only a few blocks to the north in up-coming Barrio Escalante or head on over to San Pedro with it's night time hustle and bustle from the university crowd.

● In case you are staying with us on the weekend, join us for a trip to the farmers market, where we stock up on fruits and veggies. In case you'd like your adrenaline going, join me for a bike ride.

● We are 1 block from Avenida Central in Barrio Francisco Peralta / east of Los Yoses / south of Escalente (East of downtown and before San Pedro).

● Close to the UCR, Veritas, U Latina and some other universities.

GETTING AROUND

● During the day catch the inexpensive buses that pass by every other minute to move around, once it gets dark you are better off catching a cab.
Bus stop is one block away. Any bus saying: San Pedro works

● For your trip from the airport we can recommend a great shuttle service for $ 35 flat rate or if you arrive during the day you can catch the public bus from the airport to downtown and then a cab which all together will cost around $ 7, which is what I usually do too.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

● For years we have tried to help the animals that cross our path and we do have a couple of friendly dogs and cats, which we have rescued off the streets and which we haven't been able to place into permanent homes yet. While the 2 cats mostly keep to themselves and will hide from you, the dogs will go for a walk with you anytime. They know the neighborhood pretty well and will lead you along.

Our stay with Alexandra in San Jose, Costa Rica was absolutely wonderful. She made us feel completely at home and was extremely helpful to making our stay there very pleasurable. She speaks English as well and that might make a difference for some who wish to communicate with their hosts.

Her place is within walking distance to downtown and we were offered trips to the airport. It's on a very quiet street and is up off the road so a cool breeze always flows through.

Her breakfasts were fantastic and we were allowed to use the kitchen as well. We offered a dinner as a way of showing our appreciation.

I would highly recommend staying with her. She has become a good friend in the end.... 5 STARS

Unfortunately, I can't post pictures here

    Pure Vida!

Alexandra is a fantastic host and I felt very much at home. The location for me was perfect, only 10-15 min walk to the town centre and a pleasant stroll to the university. Her place is also located down a quiet street. The open view from the lounge was a great place to relax.

Alexandra is a great host. Her experience in living and loving Costa Rica and San Jose eased my first two days of my trip. Through her I met many interesting people who left wisdom and appreciation with me.

I really enjoyed my stay. Alexandra is welcoming. The house is very lovely and peaceful. The area is nice and I felt safe walking about on my own. It's not much of a walk to the downtown area where all the museums and shops are. I would definitely stay again.

Alex was a perfect host. She was very helpful with explaining the surroundings including telling me about the buses, how to get downtown, and the best time to be in at night for safety. Alex was very helpful with booking excursions for me and she was delightful to be around she has a sweet sense of humor and a positive personality. we went on a few trips together which was very helpful because I do not speak much Spanish.her home is very close to town within walking distance of San Jose. I can't wait to go back to Costa Rica. I will certainly stay with Alex again.
