Beautiful apartment in a beautiful house. It's clean, modern, lovely and the owners are very nice people ! The house is located in Vedado, a very good place with restaurants and clubs. You need around 25 min. by foot to go to old Habana. We recommand this house !
We stayed 3 nights in this house. The house is very nicely decorated, a colonial house with high ceilings and a nice patio in the middle where we had breakfast. Very good location, very close to the Malecon and Vedado, a 20 min walk from the old centre. Our room was on the street side so we had a lot of noise, but apart from that it was a very good experience.
Excelente lugar muchas gracias por sus atenciones
Overall a great choice if you are planning to stay in central Havanna. The plusses
+ convenient location - 25 minutes to Havanna Vieja - 10 Minutes to Calle 23
+ we found this place an "oasis" - with lots of artistical reminiscences in the house and bright and white rooms
+ Very kind and helpful staff - all of them!
+ The owners - also very nice and helpful - speak English if this is a necessity
Why I did not give 5 stars:
- In 4 days of our stay our toilet did not work properly for one minute. Ultimately, this seems to have been fixed though
- There is a quite a bit of restauration going on
- There was not safe in our rooms as advertised (however, we did not feel the necessity for this anyway)
Overall, highly recommended.
My girlfriend and I were disappointed, overall, with our stay at Miguel's.
Let me start off by saying this is much closer to a hostel than a homestay. You're not staying in anyone's home. You're staying in buildings owned by Miguel and Martin.
The buildings themselves are in pretty good shape. Clean, modern decor.
Despite telling us via this website that we would have the same room for the first 2 nights, and we'd switch to another on the third night, Miguel then sent me conflicting information via e-mail a few days before our departure for Cuba.
We ended up switching rooms twice instead of once. That was somewhat mitigated by the fact that Miguel has some very good, efficient people working for him and they moved our stuff for us.
The rooms themselves are nice, if you have a private bathroom (like we did on the first and third nights). The beds are comfy but the water pressure for some of the showers is non-existent (it is Cuba after all).
One thing we enjoyed is the space and storage. They have safes for your belongings, another nice touch. The fridges were stocked with drinks (for purchase) which we appreciated.
The breakfasts were a bit pricey at 6 CUCs each (many will charge between 3-5), but there was a lot of excellent food and we certainly couldn't complain about that. It got our day off to a great start.
On the third night, and this is totally out of Miguel's hands, we experienced what was likely someone's birthday party right above our room. The music was incredibly loud - on par with music festivals I've attended in Europe and North America. I'm not kidding.
When we told the night person he just smiled and told us this was Cuba, and this is how people celebrate their birthdays. We were both (physically) sick and not in the mood for thumping techno music until midnight.
The room also had a rather serious ant problem. They were all over the walls and got into our towels and clothing.
The location of Miguel's place is excellent. Close to the Malecon, within walking distance of the University, Hotel Nacional and many more spots and landmarks. We were happy with that. And Miguel himself was helpful the one night I ran into him and he gave me information about booking a shared cab to Vinales.
All in all I wish things had been presented a bit more straightforward to us before our arrival, but there are a lot of positive aspects of staying at Miguel's too.
It was a much better stay then we had expected. Clean room and great breakfast. All staff was familar and lovely. We hope that we can come back to Cuba and then we will book the stay at Eco Rent House.
We booked with Miguel y Martin and then had to change the dates at the last minute. Miguel was able to confirm 4 of the 6 nights for our new dates and told us he would find us a place to stay for the other 2 nights. In the end, he was able to arrange for us to stay all 6 nights which was wonderful. This is a very nice casa particulaire, more like a little inn. The owner doesn't live on the premises but the very welcoming staff is there 24 hours a day and they were all wonderful. The breakfast was very good and the staff graciously accommodated us as we had brought our cereal and milk. The bed was comfortable (if you're fussy about pillows you might want to bring your own), and the ensuite bathroom great. Always enough hot water as we had our own hot water heater. Miguel also made reservations for us from a list of places we provided prior to our arrival which was great as many of the top reviewed restaurants need reservations. The design of the premises is very modern, all white with lovely furniture, art and interesting books to look at. As we are designers, we appreciated the decor. The location was right on the edge of La Rampla district which made the Vedado neighbourhood and all it offers, very accessible. Old Havana was a 5 CUC cab ride away along the Malecon. We would stay there again in a minute and highly recommend this accommodation. It is definitely worth the extra cost per night.
We stayed at Miguel and Martin's place for 3 nights. Miguel and Martin both spoke english very well and were helpful at suggesting different things to do and the more tourist-y things to avoid. The house staff did not speak much english and I would recommend downloading the english-spanish translator to use offline for google translate, as there isn't really internet access available. The house staff was very helpful and made taxi arrangements and even dinner reservations for us. The rooms were nice and clean and there was air conditioning. The only complaint I would have is it was very loud at night time, but I read that this was the case in most Casa Particulars I looked at--Havana is alive 24-7. So I'm not really sure that this is different from anywhere else we could have picked. The neighborhood was safe, and we had no issues walking. It took about 20 minutes to get to old havana or a cab was about 15 CUC. I would recommend eating breakfast at the house as we didn't do this the first day and had a hard time finding a place that was open before 12 for food. It was 6 CUC per person for breakfast. Overall, would definitely recommend. :)
We just loved everything. We were warmly welcomed. We arrived late in Havana and Miguel and Martin were expecting us and showed us everything. They gave us a whole apartment, although we booked only one room. Everything was very clean, we felt comfortable from the beginning. The staff was so so friendly and there was always someone there in case you had questions. The breakfast was very delicious and freshly prepared. Havana was our first stop in Cuba and our expectations were more than exceeded. The location is also great. We can only recommend M&M and will definitely go back there! Many kisses for all, we miss you guys! - Laura, Vivian & Zarina
