About the Homestay
Casa Familia Martinez Lopez is an home away from home for our guests, where the hospitality and historical atmosphere gives peace and safety. The house was built in 1918, colonial style and still has original period features, such as the high ceilings, elaborate covings, tiled floors and marble columns that amaze everyone.
We are a family of five: my mother, my wife, our two children and myself. We are doctors by profession, and like to chat, watch movies and read. We speak English and also encourage our guests to learn Spanish but most importantly, we can prepare an exquisite coffee! Breakfast available for extra price.
We have been running a B 'n' B in our home for 19 years, and have vast experience with both short and longstay clients as well as students from university to PhD.
Our home is conveniently located for quick access to the many attractions in Havana and to lovely bars and restaurants, just a few minutes ride to the buzzing Habana Vieja and a short walk to El Malecón, our famouse seafront walkway.
In a nutshell, we are a family run business that is proud of our professionalism and the hospitality we provide. We are confident that you will find a unique and enjoyable Cuban experience if you choose to stay with us.

Frank & Annabel were absolutely kind and hospitable hosts. I felt very welcome! Frank gave me some tips how to explore Havana. And since their house is in down town Havana, the most touristic attractions can be reached by walk.
The breakfast was yummie and healthy & the house was very clean. Frank’s house is a safe & cosy place where I definitely like to stay the next time when I am in Cuba!
One improvement I would like to see the next time is internet connection. The first days there was no wifi. It didn’t work. It’s not that easy to have internet connection in Cuba. So having wifi in casa particulares is very important. The wifi was fixed soon and the connection was great!
Muchas gracias Frank & Annabel!
From the first day of our visit to the last, Anabel and Frank have been unfailingly gracious hosts, very respectful of our privacy and independent itinerary. The upstairs casa, with its impossibly high ceilings and colonial aesthetic, is a lovely and memorable place to stay, and the high balcony offers a great vantage point for taking in the daily life on Neptuno Street. The rooms were perfectly air-conditioned and very clean, with well-functioning facilities. The home breakfasts, based on fruit, bread, ham, and eggs, were just the right thing to prepare one for a day of exploring Havana.
While the Vedado area is not quite the ground zero of tourist interest (most of the usual must-visits are in Old Havana a dozen blocks to the east) it is near the University and Revolution Square, and provides more of a taste of the real city; besides, transportation options are plentiful. As mentioned in other reviews, Frank's English is indeed excellent, which was a great help - and his recommendation of a 11CUC tour bus ride when it came time to move to Varadero was brilliant.
Overall, we really enjoyed staying with Frank and his family, and we would heartily recommend this casa particular to anyone considering a holiday in Havana.
Super netter hilfsbereiter Gastgeber. Hat immer eine Lösung gefunden und sehr gutes Preis Leistung Verhältnis fuer La Havana. Zimmer sehr ruhig und recht gut gelegen. Auch AltHabana zu Fuß zu erreichen, sowie Malecon. Absolut empfehlenswert.
Frank and his wife are very nice hosts, have an beautiful house in Vedado, with one of Habana's best restaurants around the corner: Biky's (try the Pulpo and get ecstatic!), our only complaint were the rather small beds.
We had a good time at the homestay. Everybody was very friendly and helpfull! Good Breakfast every day! Bathroom was very nice and clean, Bedroom clean, but the bed was a little small for two people! Thanks again, we will be back!
Sehr sauber , sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Gute Lage . Gutes Frühstück. Nur zum empfehlen. Lutz und Anke
Frank and family have a beautiful apartment in a great location in Havana's Vedado area, right next to the university and in between Plaza de la Revolucion and Hotel Nacional (closer to the latter). The building itself was built in 1910 and is amazing; huge rooms with very high ceilings which is great in the hot weather.
The room we stayed in contains a private bathroom with a shower, air conditioning, a fridge (which Frank filled with bottles of water for a reasonable price, which is very welcome if you're planning on walking in the sun), one single and one double bed. The room was very clean and well kept. He also provided a map to show the apartment's location together with local areas of interest.
Frank and his family are very friendly; Frank waited up for us even though our arrival to Havana was at around midnight. We had the pleasure of meeting his wife and daughter too, as well as his neighbour who always greeted us with a delicious light breakfast (included in the cost) and a smile :) Frank speaks very good English too, so if you can't speak Spanish then you'll be OK.
I would definitely recommend staying at this apartment if you want to stay in this part of the city.
We loved our stay with Frank and Anabel in Havana. They are wonderful hosts: exceptionally kind and generous with their time in explaining things to us. We also enjoyed our breakfasts prepared by the lovely Rosa. To anyone wishing to be close to the university or to the Teatro Nacional for the Havana Jazz Festival (as we did!) this is a great place to stay. Thank you Frank, Anabel, Rosa and 'los dos ninos' for making our stay so good.
A lovely place to stay pretty centrally in Havana. Frank and his family were friendly and helpful in making our stay enjoyable and pleasant. Thanks so much
