Solo Travelling? Homestay is the ideal choice

Tell us about your homestay experience.

Using homestay instead of a hotel or a rental property was the perfect choice for my situation. I was traveling abroad alone and had never been to Ireland so it was a little scary. Being in a home where someone cares about your well being is essential for this type of travel. I got to know my host well and came to love our daily chats and cups of tea together. Homestays offer a level of comfort and warmth that other options just don’t.

What did you do in Dublin ?

I went to Dublin for research, but went to tourist spots and local favorites every chance I got! Every day I went to City centre to catch the train and I always stopped at different coffee or pastry shops. I walked to St Anne’s park and sat in the rose garden or ate lunch at the market on Saturday’s. The corner store had great fish and chips and I frequently visited for ice cream!

Any tips or advice for other travellers?

The best advice I can give someone is to ask someone who rides the bus frequently to explain in detail how the bus system works. The buses can be a bit confusing if you go it alone! If you have the chance to go to a fish market in the early morning, you should!! I had never experienced a fish market before and it was amazing! If you are anywhere near St Anne’s park, go see the rose garden!

How was your experience with your host?

My host was absolutely wonderful. She was so upbeat and chatty it made me feel comfortable and at home. Every time I got back from work or came downstairs she would offer me tea. I drank more tea in two months than I had my whole life. She was so sweet and is probably who I miss the most from my trip.
