I have spent there my favourite moment of being. The place is unbelievable (lake, swiss goat, olive trees, kangaroos) but the people are even better, cheerful, talkative, generous (thanks for espressos, glass of wine, and chit chat conversation over Barbara's dessert). Kurt is a great photographer and he presented us with an amazing series of family portraits just after we had had so much fun jumping into the lake with the rope ; why precisely then ? Because at that very moment just before the sunset, the light was just perfect... I sould have kept it for myself as a hidden gem or a secret... I will never forget Yallingup.
We've had a great time at Joy's and Owen's ; nice people, indeed, they helped a lot to schedule what to do, or what to see. The house is in front of the railway, so you can hear the trains from time to time (you notice them but there's no inconvenience at all). Behind the purple gate and the Frenchy fountain you're in a one-hundred-year-old house well equipped and cosy, decorated with love and taste (lovely soaps and smooth towels). The owner is Australian, her husband is Irish and Australian, both of them are there for you, cheerful, easy-going, talkative, and make you feel at home. We actually spoke a poor English and they encouraged us to speak, to share experiences ; they're used to welcoming students for long stays (we met Italian, Japanese, French and Arabic students gathering there).
The journey to Flinders, Melbourne's most convenient station, lasts 20 minutes and you never wait a long time before you get a train, so, roughly speaking, when you leave the house you need a 30-minute journey to Melbourne CBD. The only inconvenient about the train is the fare : a "myki" card costs 6 $, and then you upload money, 8 $ per day, which is quite expensive when you're not Australian (they earn higher wages than we do in France, for example). There's no such thing as a family rider for those trains, but in the city centre the tram is free.
So the location is good if you need a rest in a cosy nest after a tiring day in Melbourne. And if you need to improve your English through a good conversation with either Joy or Owen.
Nice house, quiet neighbourhood ; easy to go to CBD by Transperth from Bull Creek Station rather than Murdoch Station, thanks to the shortcuts through the park (walking + train = 25 minutes). Lan and her partner are friendly : "No worries !" I would go back there with pleasure. Good choice for a family (one double + two single rooms).
