Best brunches in berlin

The Best Brunch Berlin has to Offer

We may all love to go out for lunch or dinner during the week but really the meal we all love the most is breakfast, or, if you can’t get out of bed early enough to call it that, brunch. Smooth eggs Benedict over coffee with friends is one of life’s simple pleasures, and going out for brunch when you travel is a great way to see how, and where, the locals like to spend their weekends.

Berlin is a huge city and finding your way around it, especially if you haven’t even had breakfast, can be a little daunting. Happily we’ve scoured the city for the best brunches to set you up for exploring the German capital. Most of the cafés featured here are in the central neighbourhoods of Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain but go off the tourist trail and explore the city and tell us where your favourite restaurants are.

Every third Sunday of the month a market of breakfasts from around the world descend on Kreuzberg’s Markthalle Neun where the burden of choice may well overwhelm you. Do you want a bloody Mary or a coffee? Bircher museli or Vietnamese porridge? If you are hungry enough, you can have them all.

The beauty of the Breakfast Market is that it really brings out the modern, multicultural aspect of Berlin and the communal benches make it a great spot to meet friends or to strike a conversation with a local. And with breakfast served from 10am to 5pm, you can literally eat nothing but breakfast for the day.

A Middle Eastern buffet-style breakfast that almost never ends? Yes please. Café Morgenland is an oldie but a goodie on the brunch scene in Berlin and reservations here are a must, particularly if you are in a group. The dips and salads here are particularly good, but for a more indulgent breakfast, go for the crepes.

The café is also in walking distance of the Landwehr Canal and the nearby Kreuzberg Sommerbad, an outdoor swimming complex which is open between May and September. Perfect for working off all those brunch calories.

Another Kreuzberg hangout, 3 Schwestern is somewhat hidden away, giving those who do discover it a smug sense of satisfaction. Located inside a former hospital that has since been converted into a contemporary art gallery, the café features a beautifully open, elegant dining space and a very affordable brunch menu.

While there is a nod to some modern brunch classics like huevos rancheros, the menu here is more of a celebration of German cuisine and the cured meats, traditional cheeses and fresh breads will set you up for the day.

Dreamy

If you’re looking for a hipster hotspot then Silo Café in Friedrichshain is where you need to go. Their pimped out chorizo and avocado toasts are just somehow better than any you’d make yourself at home while the bright, minimalist interior is like the tidy desk you've never had.

The real gem however is the coffee and the flat whites here will have you going out of your way to come back for more. Breakfast is served from 10am at weekends, but get here early before all the seats are gone!

While the warm weather of Sicily may feel a world away in the middle of a Berlin winter, rest assured that you can get a few minutes of sunshine from the organic breakfasts on offer at Pappa E Ciccia, a Sicilian-style eaterie close to the U-Bahn at Senefelderplatz .

As well as having some great vegetarian and vegan brunch options, the elegant presentation and quality of the dishes here will let you feel like you’re eating Michelin starred food for a fraction of the price.
