A Family Camping Holiday in Margaret River

Christine, her husband Justin and their two surf crazy sons from Perth stayed with one of our hosts to enjoy the South West beaches. They chose a campsite in Yallingup Springs as they wanted to be close to the beaches and wineries of the Margaret River wine region. The idea of personal service away from the more commercial caravan parks was what made them book a homestay. Barbara and Kurt's campsite surrounding a spring-fed dam sounded perfect for them. I caught up with Christine to see how she got on.

Tell us about your homestay experience.

If you enjoy your own quiet oasis, then Yallingup Springs is for you. Beautiful landscaped gardens to pitch your tent, with a natural spring to swim in. A1 facilities to use, plus nothing was any trouble for your hosts Barbara and Kurt. The kids had a great time feeding the goat and swinging off the swing into the dam.

What did you do in Yallingup?

We were in the middle of absolutely everything. It was 5 minutes to Dunsborough, 10 minutes to Caves House Yallingup for a Sunday session. We were there for the beaches and surf. If you are a keen surfer, then you are within 10 to 20 minutes to all the best surf spots. We were also a short drive away from a dozen of the best wineries and beer farms!

Have you any tips or advice for other travellers?

You must visit the Caves House for a Sunday session. There is also The Bootleg Brewery 10 minutes up the road. The most convenient aspect is that all of the popular beaches and surf spots are only a short drive away. Make sure you go to the Dunsborough Bakery. The best meat pies and cakes around! The only issue is that you'll need to have a car to get everywhere. There is no public transport, unfortunately, so make sure to hire a car.

How was your experience with your homestay host?

What amazing hosts Barbara and Kurt are. They have lived on this property for 20 years, making it as beautiful as it is today. No issue is a problem to them. They are accommodating to any request, and a solution is always offered. Their home is your home. They offer an A1 camping kitchen, with free coffee and tea every morning.
