Rencontrez Alex
Alex and his beautiful in every respect wife Mara were the perfect hosts. Meeting us on arrival, guiding our taxi driver (the address system in Crete is unusual .... :) ) and purchasing our 'personal' list of requests prior to arrival. We loved Alex's passion and sharing of knowledge and wisdoms of things old and new about Crete. We learned so much from our conversations - we are still talking about them! We purchased the book by Anthony Beever and followed up on the tips you gave us Alex. Aside from that you made us laugh, with your quick wit and humor! Your accommodation on the olive grove with its views of the sea and mountains provided us with the perfect sanctuary to start our Cretan explorations....we enjoyed walking the beaches nearby and visiting the old city of Heraklion for the tourist activities. The restaurant in the village had to be our most special moment and if you get the time please tell us the name so we can share it on Facebook...I hope to return to Crete - I left some of my heart there! Yassu Alex and Mara :)
We (my elderly mother and my sister and I) were treated to an all encompassing Cretan experience with Dimitrios. From the start his hospitality was evident and when we arrived in Chania we were given a wonderful stay on the farm with lemon groves, chickens, roses and olives and the goats! This village was the quintessential Cretan village, Dimitrios mother showed me how to bake traditional cookies and her friend brewed Cretan coffee...we fed the chickens and goats too. After a night in this bucolic haven we went to the studio in the old monastary in Chania Old Town square near the harbour. We experienced everything within walking distance, and we achieved the aims we had on our agenda for visiting Crete in regards of the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Crete. Thank you Domitrios for your kindness - when we were locked out of our car and in helping us establish contact with the families of the boys who had helped my grandfather during the Battle of Crete, and finally for setting up a wonderful final night with Stelios and yourself. I for one aim to revisit your hospitality. Yassu Dimirios and family.
