We are living in a beautiful, nature friendly two storied laterite stone house especially built for hunting tigers and other game. Me, my wife and our 7 yr. old daughter enjoy an Eco friendly living amongst the most rural settings of Odisha.
The house has arched windows with multicolored glass all around. There are two very large water bodies with abundant local fish adjacent to the boundary wall. The house is surrounded by high walls with a main gate locked at night. There is 24 hr. security and other staff to help. Plenty of open space and a vegetable garden with in-house dairy farm makes it a truly unique home stay.
Debjit is a wildlife artist and spends a lot of time painting and sketching and his wife, Namrata spends time cooking and stitching.

About the Area

Our house is located on the eastern region of India, 95 kms from the Bay of Bengal. The Golden triangle of Puri, Konark and Bhubaneswar offer incredible insight into India's past and present. Odisha is rich in history, culture, traditional art and craft with its beautiful temples in Konark, Puri and Bhubaneswar the capital city. KILA DALIJODA is situated close to the ancient city of Bhubaneswar, which is the capital of Odisha. The place is surrounded by the lovely forests and hills of Dalijoda range on one side and serene rural villages on the other -- offering the traveler a multiplicity of choices to experience local culture as well as the tribal lifestyle of villagers, including ancient practices such as cock-fights and their weekly HAATS or markets. To complement your stay in at Kila Dalijoda we offer traditional Indian home food cooked in an eco-friendly kitchen running on BIO GAS. From wildlife safaris, to nature-walks, you can also walk or cycle through tiny tribal hamlets and have a glimpse of local village life or even witness the making of hand-crafted utensils, a highlight of the area.
The area also offers plenty of opportunities for bird watching, nature photography and Angling or sport fishing in the river Mahanadi. This place is excellent for those who are still chasing butterflies and moths, literally! The area is packed with a variety of butterflies, moths and beetles.
Just an hour away from KILA DALIJODA is also the head-quarter of an unique Hindu cult called "Alekha Mahima Dharma", where semi-clad sadhus or monks practice a unique cult. The nearby forest and the hills offer plenty of exciting cycling and trekking routes and the river creeks and lakes offer an ideal destination for Anglers for sport-fishing.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the couple of days I stayed with Debjit, Namrata and their delightful daughter Srividya. The description and photos of the property are accurate.
If you love nature, history, peace , solitude, anecdotes and excellent home -cooked authentic Indian Cuisine then you'd love this place. It's not easy to restore and maintain an old house but the hosts have done a commendable job.
Debjit was always prompt and helpful in his replies. The pick up arrangement was smooth and the cost was very reasonable.
Debjit is a keen birder and he took me out several times looking for birds. His enthusiasm is infectious and his delight in spotting an owl unexpectedly was genuine.
He did arrange a car for me to go to Kapilash and Joranda temple to see the Arti , but because it was an auspicious day so the places were teeming with devotees and I had to abandon the idea.
The room was huge with two big beds, an ante-chamber and modern functioning bathroom and toilet. Hot water was available all the time.
We also went for a 5 k bike ride through the tribal villages and met local artesans. Debjit clearly is well loved and respected there.
Beautiful views of the Eastern Ghat range from the roof of the property. A flock of swans gave me company while I walked around the two large tanks in front of the house. All the staff were polite and courteous.
I've absolutely no hesitation in recommending this homestay.

Debjit, his wife Namrata and daughter were very good hosts.

It was an experience to stay at Killa Dilijoda. The place has been maintained reasonably well.

Debjit was kind enough to accompany us for a trek to the forest and had lot of historical information about the zamindar I system of pre independent India.

He has restored a fish pond on his property and also has cattle being reared on his property.

Food is authentic local and home-cooked. We had all our meals with the family. We found the family to be excellent hosts and our group of 2 families had a wonderful escapade to Kiladiljoda.
