Tucked away into a quiet 'vaddo' in Cuncolim, Salcette, 'Gormand' is a 1915 Indo-Portuguese home, where you will experience the authentic village life of South Goa. While only a short drive from beautiful and busy southern beaches of Benaulim, Colva and Cavelossim, the pace of life in and around Cuncolim is unhurried. Not yet registering on any tourist map, this cluster of traditional villages retains an idyllic old-world charm and a true 'goenkar' personality. Typical of any family in a village, 'Gormand' is like a tightly-knit fabric, rich in texture and vividly printed. My family lives in the bungalow and the room on rent has a separate entrance.

About the Area

Cuncolim and its neighbouring villages of Velim and Assolna reflect the harmonious character of Goa’s complex demography. Bounded on one side by hilly tracts and on the other by the Sal River’s verdant banks, Cuncolim is especially resplendent during the monsoon, but remains scenic year-round. Dotted with a rich smattering of Portuguese era architecture, this stretch of inland country is certainly worth exploring along quaint country roads. With active municipal representation and a strong sense of community, development here has been steady and sustainable – the local way of life, uncompromised.

So, what to look out for? Pau walas cycling past at furious pace - horns bleating, municipal garbage collectors playing hide-and-seek even as their whistles give them away, chatty knife-sharpeners and fish-mongers bringing traditional mobile service and home-delivery. Internet and wifi connection here is lethargic at best, much like the locals, while susegad between 1-4 pm is always a trending phenomenon. Can’t blame the locals for their love of the afternoon siesta - a delicious fish thali, comes with this heavy price.

House Rules

Due to the evolving situation with Covid-19, we require that all guests to wear masks when interacting with members of the household and accessing public spaces. The following precautionary measures will be taken -

1. 48 hours between check-ins to ensure deep cleaning.
2. Hand sanitizer and surface disinfectants will be made available in the room.
3. We will provide a separate garbage disposal unit which will have to be used by the guests themselves.

Other notes -

The practice has not yet caught on in Goa, but at 'Gormand' we do segregate wet and dry garbage.
Although very safe, we request guests to keep the gate and their room door locked at all times.
Siesta time is between 2-5pm and lights out at 10pm to respect the other residents of the 'vaddo' (village).

100% deposit is required at the time of confirming the booking.

Smoking Rules

Your host is a non-smoker.

Smoking is allowed outdoors only.

How do I book?
