And we love to share our culture too.
Made, will even be your personal tour guide and show you things you might have missed if you weren't from the island.
We have had guests from France, Nepal, Australia, Canada, Japan, Sweden and so many more with whom we are happy to share stories . We loves gives the opportunity to experience Balinese culture up close.
Our house is traditional Balinese style. Our 2 rooms of the homestay are simple and pleasant, and have a beautiful Balinese style thatched roof/ceiling. We live on a quiet road in the village. but we are close 10 minute to the beach. We have some activities while our guest stay in our home-stay like walking in rice field, go around the village see the village temple, learn Balinese Bamboo music. We love Made and his family! The daughters were very helpful and fun tot all to, Made is a great host and we had such great laughs! Ayu makes the most amazing food in all of Bali and the environment is warm and comforting. We really enjoyed staying here and loved waking up with the sunrise the roosters and dogs. It felt authentic and a breath of fresh air from the touristy places.
The home is close to Canggu and you get to see the real Bali, we loved so much staying here and will definitely be back!!
This is honestly the best two nights of our entire trip to Bali :)
staying at Made and Ayu's made my girlfriend and I feel very at ease and at home.
We are musicians and we are very grateful to have learned Rindlik instruments from Made and his daughters.
Ayu not only cooked delicious Balinese food for us but was also kind enough to teach us two foodies how to cook the cuisines. we are vegan and we are happy that Ayu could alter and make the best Balinese trademark foods.
Made and his family were all very kind and hospitable. Everyone speaks good English. The family helped us a lot:)
Made helped us out on the transportation (from airport to their lovely home) and also helped us out on renting a motorbike.
Lets not forget pom pom, their family dog ,and how he actually secured us and guided us when we were walking in the streets and enjoying the traditional Balinese style buildings.
overall, we would love to visit Made and his family and stay with them for a longer period of time next time we visit Bali.
We had a wonderful time at Made and his families beautiful homestay. They made us feel so welcome instantly and helped with organising scooters. We had a fantastic night with Made learning some Indonesian music on the bamboo instrument- something I will never forget! Made's wife also made us really delicious food and his daughters are so kind and friendly. Would definitely recommend to stay here, especially if you are looking for a taste of true Indonesian culture and kindness. Thank you to Made and his family :)
Made Rai and his family are heartwarming and wonderful. They made my stay in Bali even more unforgettable with them sharing their local culture and spending time with them. I will most definitely coming back to stay again when im back in Bali!
Made Rai and his family are the most incredible thing could happen to me at my first time in Bali (and Indonesia also).
Their place is such a little paradise with two beautiful dogs, birds and butterflies combining with the big big big smile that the family always give to theirs guests and the armony you can breathe in there, makes the experience incredibly comfortable and makes you feel as if you was arriving to your own home with your own family.
When I arrived, Oka recived me and gave me all the instructions to be happy there. Ayu cooked for me a stunning rice that I ate as soon as the plate was on the table (while days passed I realized that Ayu cooks better tan my mom). At the same time, Made Rai was playing the Rindik (that days after taught me to play); Niki was like a sister with me since I get there and Niti was always happy and studying.
At the beginning I supposed to be only for two nights there, but I felt so comfortable that I spend eight and was really difficulty to me say goodbye :(
I really hope to be with them again! This is the perfect family and place when you are traveling and feel like wanna be hugh by some of your family or just when you are a little homesick and wish to be in a peaceful place!!!!!
So people, if you have the chance of visit Bali, don’t miss the opportunity of stay at one of Made Rai’s places (he has also beautiful Villas that are very near from the guest house). This is The Place ::)
We had an amazing time with Made-Rai and his beautiful family! Although we only stayed for two nights, he took us on a trip to the Jutliwatuh (?) ricefields, the Tanah Lot temple, the hotspring water and the butterfly park. His wife cooks more than amazing, everyone who is staying would be silly not to book the tour and the dinner/ lunch. We had a lot of fun playing the piano and walking around with his youngest daughter who showed us the small but cute town. I hope that you'll all be able to visit Germany some time! We honestly recommend this homestay to everyone and hope to see you again. Until then.. Cheers
Our time with Made Rai and his lovely family was one of the highlights of our trip to Bali. They were all so warm and welcoming. Made was a great tour guide, explaining things about the Balinese culture as we went, Ayu was a wonderful cook and Niki and Niti were so mature and polite. It was nice to spend time in a little village away from the tourists and everyone was very welcoming as we wandered through the pretty village looking like the sweaty, pale tourists that we were!
We found the transport prices to be completely fair and reasonable. Of course, you will sometimes find cheaper prices but I think tourists need to remember that they are being chauffeur driven with their own tour guide on their own personal tour - the least they can do it pay a fair price for the service! I absolutely recommend staying with this wonderful family.
My sister and I stayed the first week of our long visit to Bali in this homestay. The place was clean and peaceful. However, it is remote and you need a long scooter ride to get to the surrounding beaches. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend staying here more than 2 or 3 nights. Also, as transportation (taxi) in the village could only be arranged by the homestay family for us, we realised later on that we were charged way more than fair price for the transportation from airport to vila and on our last day from vila to Ubud. We were charged almost double the fair price. We only learned this as we continued our trip to other places, met with other people/ homestay families and ordered taxis to move around. This homestay is located in a peaceful and remote village.
Desa Cepaka is a quaint little homestay in Tabanan, the house is in a village situated on a busy little road.
I stayed there for about 3 weeks for my first solo female traveller in Bali.
It is a perfect little place isolated from surrounding suburbs if you want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist destination. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you know how to get around by scooter because it is quite pricey if you are dependent on a driver to get you around (Made or either one of his family). I spent more on transport than the homestay itself.
The cost of pick up and drop off to Ubud, Canggu,Tanah Lot or Airport is AU$30 and AU$50 outside these areas. These were actually discounted price from Made because of the length of my stay.
It was hard to book a tour because Made's place is outside the pick up zone for a free hotel pickup, so I had to pay Made AU$30 to be dropped off to Ubud on top of what the tour would cost me so I could be picked up by a touring company.
You cannot get Uber to come to Made's because his house was too far which was pretty disappointing because their estimated charge are half the price of his.
The family is lovely and attentive, Made's girls are so polite and beautiful, Ayu's cooking is great (AU$5 per meal), the place is clean, the facility is you get what you paid for.
My stay was paid in full on arrival, it is non refundable if I decided to cancel and booked somewhere else closer. My time wasn't bad at this homestay but my total bill was quite expensive for what it was. I think Made more than made up for the cheap accommodation by his expensive transport fees.
Made did show me his sealed official price list from the Bali Department of Transport when I questioned him with my concerns about the costly transport fees.
The cost of transport are the only drawback of the homestay but everything else was lovely.
We had a wonderful Homestay with this warm, engaging family in a village about one hour northwest of the airport. The family compound was traditional with a temple and buildings with lots of tropical plants and statues. This was a very enjoyable cultural experience, including the (connected and covered) outdoor toilet and shower with plenty of hot water. Being outside of a more populated area, the Internet signal was weak.
What makes traveling extra special, is the experience and conversations with the hosts, their family and other people. We enjoyed interacting with our hosts three daughters who were very helpful and spoke good English. We had interesting conversations with their other guests and exchanged travel tips.
We also enjoyed walking around the village in the morning watching the women villagers making their morning offerings. The villagers were very friendly and greeted us with a smile.
Breakfast is included and there is an option of asking Made Rai’s wife, Ayu to make dinner (Cost was reasonable). It was some of the best food we had in Bali.
Made Rai made arrangements for airport pick up and can arrange a driver to take guests to the outlying tourists attractions. Made Rai was able to take us out one day. His knowledge and command of English enriched our experience.
The charming, 9-year old Niti accompanied us on our trip to Tanah Lot Temple. Her English was very good and she served as a guide in-training.
We had wonderful, inexpensive massages in our room arranged by Made Rai from two lovely young ladies from the village who arrived on motorcycles.
The family owns four villas nearby, two with pools that are usually rented by the month. Great for families or two couples.
If you want to experience the real culture of Bali, this is the place to stay.
