Experience authentic, Balinese life. The Payogan Homestay is located within our traditional, Balinese family compound, a 35 minute walk away from Ubud. The room is spacious, with a clean and contemporary style, a beautiful space complemented with Balinese accents. You will wake up to the traditional sounds of Bali and experience the essence of staying in a Balinese village.
The space includes a large bedroom, an attached living space, a kitchenette, and a private bathroom. Should you wish to stay for a longer period, we can provide a stove and other cooking equipment. The large open-air bathroom includes a tub and shower with hot water only a turn-of-a-tap away.
Living in a Balinese family compound means that you will have many friendly, neighbors. The compound is home to a large extended family, all of whom are very involved in traditional Balinese life, and committed to our village ceremonies. Many of these ceremonies also take place in the family temple which is in the middle of the compound. We welcome you to participate if you choose. In fact, we encourage our guests to join us to get the true feeling of Balinese culture. We can always help you through the experience and provide the traditional wear.
If there's anything else you need, just ask. We want you to have a memorable stay in Bali with our family.

Lovely environment with kind people. We were invited to a family wedding which was fortunate for us. The downfall to this was we were woken up at 3am with the sound the food preparation. I would recommend the place as it was mostly quiet but check if there is a wedding on first.

Staying at Ketut's place was the most authentic experience my friend and I had in Bali! Our room (Payogan homestay downstairs) was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully decorated, in the middle of the most wonderful garden.
Ketut is an amazing host! He was very welcoming and helpful. Apart from being our host he was also our driver and guide for two days, which was a lot of fun. After talking about what we would like to visit and what we wanted to experience in Bali, he not only drove us to all the places we wanted to see, but also introduced us to some hidden gems, explaining to us a lot about Bali culture. He also helped us book other experiences (e.g., an authentic Balinese cooking class, or transportation and tickets to the Gili islands etc.) at a discounted price. He took care of us and made us feel we had a friend in case we needed anything during the rest of our trip in Indonesia.
There is also a restaurant located in the homestay, with home cooked style Indonesian food, which is a don't miss! We had breakfast and dinner there, and each dish we tried was more delicious than the next.
All in all, you can tell that this establishment is being run with the utmost care, passion, and love! Thank you, Ketut, for making our stay in Ubud extra special! If we ever go back to Bali, we will definitely stay at Ketut's place!August 2023
Pak Ketut was very helpful with everything. We really enjoyed our stay in the guest house villa during Galungan celebration in his house. His family restaurant Balinese Home cooking was also amazing. Great taste of traditional Balinese food for a reasonable price. AAA+.

Ketut Mendra's homestay was the best choice we could have made for our 2 months stay at Bali. Ketut is very hospitable and was not only our host but also our driver and guide. He asked us to describe our interests and based on them suggested where to go for a tour of for a walk in the neighbourhood of attend a hindu ceremony. He explained a lot about Bali culture and was interested in ours. The village Payogan is near enough to Ubud to go there on foot (or taxi) but far enough to be much quieter and more traditional than Ubud. In Payogan and on Ketut's compound we experienced 'authentic' Bali daily life. We loved it!

From start to finish (and even further) everything about our stay with Ketut was splendid. We were welcomed upon our arrival, assisted to our spacious and airy room, given help and assistance in our plans and included in the local neighborhood's ceremony and traditions. Our stay was so very much more than a place to sleep and eat. We felt welcome and recognized at every turn. We left with regrets that we could not stay longer and look forward to coming back soon. The meals were fantastic. As a matter of fact, we were able to come back the night after we checked out (leaving our hotel) so we could have one more meal and enjoy the friendship of Ketut and his family.

Ketut is an excellent host. From the first day he was very helpful, he told us all the information we needed to move and meet around Ubud. His house is very authentic and has a little restaurant with delicious local dishes. His family will let you feel like home. Also he has a his little family temple and it was amazing to walk around his garden. He will also help you to move around ubud and get the best prices. I was there with my anak 7y (daughter in balinese) and my baby 4months. Thank you Ketut we really enjoy our time with you.

We had the pleasure of staying with Ketut in July 2018 traveling as a two adult two child family. Ketut’s nephew picked us up early one morning from our previous homestay in Munggu and suggested a few sights to see that very day. He was a good guide and helped us organize a busy day at the Bali Swing, tried the Luwak coffee, took us to a lovely Warung for lunch, the Kemenuh butterfly house, the Tegenungan waterfall and lastly Monkey forest in Ubud (around 800k for the whole day, pick up and tour).
The homestay is in Payogan village, about 5-10 minutes drive from Ubud. The family compound is rather large, beautiful gardens and there were 3 or 4 guest rooms located near the back, each being quite private from one another. The entry to the compound is under the sign ‘Bali Homestyle Cooking’ and also shows up on google maps under that name. The family run a restaurant onsite, with beautiful home cooked style Balinese food which we partook for both breakfast and dinner, seemed quite popular with tourists coming in just to eat. The waitstaff which we assumed are mostly family, were all so lovely. Ketut made himself available a few times to chat and share stories.
We were greeted warmly and shown up to our room. The room was private and self contained, upstairs, very large with a bed that could fit 3 adults, a mosquito net over it, an extra mattress on the floor, ceiling fan, a bar size fridge. The room ceiling was open to the outside but mosquitoes were not an issue that time of year. There were sliding doors to a lovely balcony with a comfortable 2 seater chair. The ensuite bathroom was large and lovely, shower was beautiful. Noise levels were fine, just the sound of evening diners downstairs having conversations until about 9pm, then the odd barking dog through the night. The room was cleaned daily.
We also did a half day tour with Ketut’s son, and then spent an afternoon at the ‘Jungle Fish’ pool, which we though was a basic pool but turned out to be a fancy infinity pool with bar/restaurant (cost 600k entry for us four and one of us wasn’t swimming).
We had amazing Balinese massages one evening from Ketut’s sister who does a few different types and lives in the compound, just ask for her pamphlet. The family didn’t hesitate to answer any questions we had, organized to have our clothes washed and drove us to Ubud a few times for around 100k per trip.
We would recommend staying here as it is so peaceful and away (but not too far) from the bustle that is Ubud. It’s like a very small family run resort, we felt welcome and connected, but given space to enjoy our family time together. Thank you.August 2017
Staying with Ketut and his family was the single best thing we did in Bali. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful. We would get really good breakfast (Pancakes and coffee / tea) every day and Ketut's relatives would always drive us around town and even to our next destination for a fair price if we wanted to see something. The homestay is a bit removed from the city itself, which was perfect for us - we really enjoyed the quiet out there. The rooms were beautiful, with outside bathroom / shower and lots of space. We would definitely stay there again!
