I was supposed to stay there 7 days, but I finished my stay after 4 days.
Ann left to go to England during the whole week, not telling us this was happening.
She left us alone with her husband, who we knew nothing about.
Elphin is in the middle of nowhere, so much so that the husband, Leo, had to drive us everywhere (paying him, obviously: €20 to Roscommon and €10 to Carrick-on-Shannon)
On the third night I took a bath. Just after finishing everything and pulling the plug, my partner rushed into the bathroom to tell me that Leo was saying there was water coming out of the ceiling, so I put the plug back on and left some water there. We went for a walk and when we came back I pulled the plug to let the rest of the water go again.
The next morning we went downstairs and before we even got our breakfast, Leo started yelling at us saying that we had overfilled the bath (which hadn’t happened as not only there isn’t enough hot water in the house, but I also made sure no water came out and put the shower screen on to make sure). We tried to explain to him that the leak only started happening after I pulled the plug (therefore being a problem with the plumbing), he kept yelling at us telling us that we shouldn’t do it again, which we obviously answered: we have to shower again, so we don’t know what you want us to do as it’s not because of overflowing.
He kept insisting it was our fault, saying he had to paint the ceiling that morning (which you don’t do for a leak, you fix it first and then paint it) and saying we had to pay for it. He swore at us and shouted at us without listening to our point of view.
We had a deal with Ann that after the first week we would be paying weekly until we found a place to stay permanently as we were moving from England. Leo knowing this said that we had to be out at the weekend.
We obviously didn’t know what to do as we are two 22 year old girls, in the middle of nowhere, without a car or anywhere to go.
Luckily we found a place to stay for a few days, but we had to get a taxi (spending about €120 to get there as we had 3 suitcases, two bags and two rucksacks)
After all this, they didn’t give us the money back from the days we didn’t stay there (as we thought would happen) which is about €100.August 2023
