About the Homestay
Thank you very much for reading our profile, we love having guests stay, we learn so much and they do too. Our rate is €175 per week 7 days 0r €600 per month. We live in Knocknacarra, Galway City, a 15 minute bus ride to the city centre with City Direct Bus 411, bus stop 4 minute walk away, 25 minute cycle ride away, I normally cycle by the sea in Salthill. Aldi Supermarket is a 15 minute walk away if you need groceries.
We live in a cosy and modern 4 bedroomed semi detached house. We have a large kitchen with double cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer for your use.
You would have full use of the kitchen. We have looked after students from University Hospital Galway, Galway Community College, GTi, Fr Griffin Road, Yates College and NUIG students and are on college cribs and also have many students studying English.
Our family consists of Mum, Dad, 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl and not forgetting our dogs Rocky and Rosie, you will love them.
We are outgoing, friendly, when the weather is good we are outside.
The children are all sporty and our lives revolve around bringing them to their sporting activities which include Rugby, Hurling, Gaelic Football and soccer.
Galway has everything, mountains not too far away in Connemara, a small enough city that you won't get lost in, plenty of buskers singing and dancing on the streets, Irish music and you will probably hear some Irish spoken also as it is some peoples first language, they will of course speak English.
Things we would recommend, The Cliffs of Moher, Connemara, Aran Islands, Westport and many more. Looking forward to meeting you. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like, you need to feel comfortable before you decide to stay with a host family.

I don't like the word rules, it sounds so unfriendly, but if there is such a word that I have to use it would be use your common sense and just considers others that are living in the house, most of all, enjoy your stay in Galway and we hope it will be an adventure you will always remember. No one ever left Galway saying they did not love it, including me !! We have met some wonderful guests, and we have learnt so much about many different nationalities and cultures. If you book long term with us for example a few months and you decide you want to leave there is a €175 cancellation fee, this has never happened so far, we have a great reputation.
Smoking is not allowed.
Five hearts just doesn't seem enough of a rating for our stay with Penny. Ten out of Five hearts would be more like it!
My son, Sam, was 17yrs old and on his first solo overseas adventure when he stayed with Penny and her family for two and a half months early this year. Sam travelled to Ireland from Australia to train in Irish Dance. His trip was planned at the last minute and we had hoped to find somewhere for him to stay that was 'homely'. We were truly blessed that we found Penny and her family. Penny went out of her way to make Sam feel at home. The day he arrived, she picked him up from the bus station and got him settled. HIs room was perfect for his stay. We paid a little more for home cooked meals which Sam really appreciated when he returned from classes late at night. He enjoyed kicking the football around with her children, spending time with her dogs and chats with Penny and her husband. Penny also helped me organise a surprise trip over to visit Sam. While I wasn't able to stay with Sam, Penny suggested accommodation close by (another beautiful family), picked me up from the bus station and brought me back to her place to surprise Sam. Penny is such a beautiful lady who genuinely cares. There are so many lovely things I could write about Penny and her family. Sam has so many wonderful memories he has brought home with him. He still talks about his time at Penny's - and so do I. Thank you Penny (and your family) for your wonderful hospitality. xx
This guest awarded the host 4 hearts but didn’t leave any comments.
I loved staying in Penny's house ! :D She is a very welcoming host, she always asked how was my day and spoke to my friend and I every evening and made us feel very welcoming in her house. She is a great cooker too! :D Her kids and husband are very nice and polite too and their dog Ruby is lovely. The rooms are clean, tidy and there is everything you need in it. The city center is 15-20 minutes by bus from the house.
I RECOMMAND TOTALLY THIS ACCOMODATION ! :D
My stay at Penny's couldn't be better! My room was clean and tidy as well as the kitchen an bathroom. The house is located a few meters away from the bus stop and you'll be in the city centre in about 15 minutes. It was a pleasure to met her and her family (Ruby included), they were always very kind and polite to me. Definetly recommend this homestay to anyone who's planning to stop by in Galway.
Absolutely loved staying with Penny and her family. The kids are wonderful and Penny is a very welcoming host. She loves getting to know people, talking to them and if you need any help or advice she is the person to go to. She always made me feel very welcome in her home, which I appreciated the most. The house is big, clean and warm. The rooms are lovely and equipped with everything you need. The bus stops very close to the house so getting to the city centre is quite easy.
Would recommend to anyone who wants to see Galway and experience a bit of Irish culture.
Penny is a lovely and welcoming lady.
She loves having people staying at her place and loves chatting with them. Actually everybody is welcomed as a member of the family which is really pleasant.
Besides she lives in a nice area and thanks to bus 411 it is easy to go to the city center in 15 minutes. If you feel like it you can also walk because the countryside is lovely but it takes about an hour.
I really recommend Penny as a host if you want to find a nice play to stay in Galway. You will have a nice and very clean bedroom with television and Penny cooks yummy dishes!
Fabulous stay in Galway, Penny is a great hostess who is always willing to help you and make you feel at home. The house is cozy and located 2 minutes from the bus stop, if you prefer to walk the center is located 50 minutes.
It is a warm, clean and quiet house. Strongly recommended

She always tried to help me whenever I needed their help.
I was in a complete dwaal at Penny's home.
I already miss Penny's family. I think that Penny's family is best hospt.
Penny's family who I would highly recommended.
너무너무 사랑스럽고 행복한 홈스테이예요. 적극추천입니다. ^^*
My name is Francie from Germany, I am 21 years old and I stayed with Penny and her family for nearly 3 months during the summer.
When I decided to go to Galway for an internship during my studies I wanted to stay with a host family on the one hand to improve my English and on the other hand to get to know the Irish culture.
I registered with homestaybooking and Penny was the first person I wrote an email because the family looked very nice. My first impression didn´t change at all. I had a lot of questions but Penny answered all of them very patient. We had a lot of contact before I went to Ireland, so I felt very safe and had a really good feeling to go there.
When I arrived in Galway, Penny and the children picked me up from the Coach Station. It was a really friendly and warm welcoming and I felt to be in good hands from the first moment.
Penny and Declan have 3 children, aged 4 until 9. The children are really open-minded, funny and active.
Penny is at home every day. She goes to work in the mornings and comes back in the afternoon. Penny is an awesome person. She was always interested in what I did during the day and she was always helpful and did everything to make me feel comfortable during my stay.
Whenever Penny went on trips with the children, she asked me if I wanted to come with them. It was also self-evident for her to take me to the city or a shopping centre.
When Penny is working Maria looks after the children. She comes from Spain and works as an au pair. She is a really nice, energetic and outgoing person.
Pennys husband Declan is at home only at the weekends. The family also has a small dog, called Ruby.
The room I was living in was really clean and bright and had a nice atmosphere.
Penny always cleaned it once a week and always changed the bed linen. There was a TV in the room, too. In addition to that you can also use the internet access. There is also a big wardrobe, a desk and a mirror. Whenever I had washing, I could give it to Penny, too.
The bathroom was also always clean and had a bath tub, too. I was a bit worried, because it´s a shared bathroom. But it was absolutely no problem, because the family has another bathroom, too. So you can use the bathroom whenever you need to.
The kitchen is very big and has extensive facilities, which you can always use, for example a cooker, a microwave, a toaster, a water boiler, an oven, a fridge, etc.
The price includes breakfast, lunch and dinner - which really cheap for Irish relations, because food is really expensive in Ireland.
For breakfast you can have coffee, tea, milk, toast, cereals, ham, cheese, jam, etc.
If you are out for lunch you can take a sandwich, crisps and fruits with you.
For dinner you always get a warm meal and Penny is a brilliant cooker! We often ate pasta, rice, curries, vegetables, potatoes and meat.
*The living area*
The family lives in Galway City in a quiet and pleasant neighbourhood. It is not far to the countryside, but also not far from the city centre. If you go by bus it takes about 10-15 minutes to go there. If there is a lot of traffic, it will take some minutes more. The next bus stop is only 2 minutes away from the house. If you want to walk to the city centre, it will take about 60 minutes.
If you need something for shopping you find the next shops after a 10-minute-walk.
All in all it was an absolutely brilliant experience to stay in Ireland, not at least because of the hospitableness and cheerfulness of my host family. If you are looking for a place to stay, whether for 3 days or 3 months, I can only advise you, to stay with Penny and her family. You won´t find another place to live, which is as comfortable, nice and cheap, as Pennys household!
