We are located in the center of Kathmandu with most of the UNESCO Heritage sites and tourist center of Thamel in walking distance. My house is still off the main road with relatives and extended families living around. That makes it a safe, less noisy and welcoming place with more chances of cultural immersion and knowing the Nepalese family life.
I live with my 6 years old daughter Anna' father in law and husband who runs a tour company 'iTourNepal.com P Ltd.' I run a preschool in the neighborhood with my other two women partners. So we definitely have lots of stories to share and activities to involve you.
The house is a 12 years old concrete building with a red brick front. Our neighborhood and the house stood strong during the April 2015 earthquake. Even though I have a small yard, there are plenty of trees and flowers. We have adopted an eco-friendly lifestyle. So we use less plastics and compost biodegradable waste. I use the manure to grow vegetables on the rooftop. We have got solar heated water and for back up lights. We filter rain water and harvest it.
We just have 3 rooms allocated for homestay guests. But we are expanding to the neighborhood as a community homestay. I believe in enforcing an eco-friendly lifestyle through tourism.
All rooms have a kitchenette and attached bathroom.
Homestay guests can join us in the kitchen and learn to make Nepalese cuisine.

Additional Info

My husband is well learned, government licensed tour guide. You can plan 2 days tour of Kathmandu along with homestay program. There are also beautiful hikes and short trek (2 - 3 days) you can go on.

My brother 'Prabin' knows lots of the birds around to take you on a bird watching trip around Kathmandu. He is associated with 'Bird conservation Nepal'. There are plenty of green hills and few wetlands to plan bird watching trip.

Our homestay is perfect for practicing 'Nepali language'. We are just walking distance away from most of the Nepali language institute (Thamel). There are kids and relatives living around with whom you can easily mix up and communicate.
Guests can also participate and learn Nepalese cooking like MoMo (dumplings), Dal Bhat (Nepali set) and other local dishes.

You can also involve yourself in the preschool I manage with my couple of ladies partners. We need volunteers to tell stories, art and crafts and paintings.
I was also thinking about running a evening class for poor kids in the community where they can come and get help for their homework. Being in the center of city, there are not enough playground. Also there parents not being educated (mostly labors renting one room) , they need more help with their homework and other academic activities.

I had an amazing time staying with Kopila and the family. I stayed for 6 weeks and was sad to leave at the end. The family are very welcoming and helpful, we enjoyed some evenings out together and chatted every morning. The breakfast is the best in Kathmandu. The room was spacious and could have accommodated more people at a very reasonable rate. It is located very close to the main tourist area but far enough away that it is a local area with very friendly locals and no touts approaching you.

I couldn't recommend this place enough and hope to come back to stay in the future.

Kopila is a very busy woman managing household, homestay, 2 children and working fulltime. She was very accommodating and made me feel right at home. Her whole family and friends/helpers that were there made time to explain things to me and show me temples and advise what else is worth seeing. I am very happy my first few days in a new country was spent with her and her family. If you are considering it just do it. You have your own kitchen for cooking but also have breakfast and dinner in her kitchen if you like. Special moments included listening to one of her children reading Peter Pan to me before dinner and making momo. Also the food was delicious. Thanks Kopila, family & friends for your hospitality. Best introduction to Nepal!

What a wonderful time at your homestay. Plenty of space, privacy, all amenities that can be desired and always a supporting family. This is Kopila’s Homestay in Kathmandu. Close to Thamel but still a place to enjoy the bird’s singing in the morning. Thank you for these unforgettable hours. Raju

I had a wonderful time in the home of Kopila und Robin and there two children. They are very nice and helpful people. I got best breakfast and dinner and had many good, trustful and interesting talks. They also invited me to a wedding in the family and helped me very much to orientate myself in kathmandu. Thank you very much for the welcome. Margit.

Wow, what an amazing home to be welcomed into- thank you. Kopola and her family went out of their way to ensure my son and I were welcomed and eased into life in Kathmandu. She was full of helpful tips, a warm heart, beautiful places to visit and helpful tips on other places to travel in Nepal. Our welcome to Nepal has been seamless thanks to this homestay.
