My house is a charming and sunny apartment, perfect for a couple, in a unique location: the iconic historic area of Bica! This neighborhood is part of the heart of the city, close to all services, transport and cultural sites.

The solar orientation is excellent with impressive views (Tagus River, 25 de Abril Bridge and Cristo Rei monument).The bedroom and living room also have a balcony.

Well equipped, the decor was thoughtful to make you feel at home.

About the Area

The most popular street in Lisbon is probably Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo. It is located in the historical and picturesque district of Bica, one of the most typical neighborhoods in the city, known for its small bars and especially for the emblematic elevator that crosses it. The elevator goes up and down the hill from 1892.

The small neighborhood, between Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodré, is composed of a set of sidewalks and steps, originated in 1597, after a landslide. The land belonged to an influential Jew, with connections to D. John II, and began to be inhabited by fishermen and fishmongers. The name derives from a spout, although there are several, built in the seventeenth century and owned by Duarte Belo, a merchant. Spouts and fountains were usually meeting places, filling the neighborhood with life.

Little affected by the earthquake of 1755, the Bica offers a beautiful view of the Tagus, and maintains the colorful buildings of the XVII and XVIII centuries, many of them always with open doors, and with balconies with pots of flowers and clothes in them.

In June, the big celebrations of the city are celebrated, and RUA DA BICA is one of the most popular streets. In this month of June, there is music, street bars and conviviality at the foot of the house.

House Rules

0. INTRODUCTION

"My house is your house."

Welcome! Everything in sight (and in cabinets) can be used by you: hygiene and cleaning products, food and spices, household appliances, electronic equipment, etc.

The apartment is not intended as a hotel or a hostel, but rather as a typical neighborhood house, warm and friendly, in a centennial building in the center of Lisbon.

Although events and parties are not allowed, yes it is possible to invite a couple of friends to dinner, watch a movie, or share a company.

1. CLEANING

When you get to my house, it will be clean and ready to receive the best you can. I don't ask any cleaning fee because I trust my guests to take care of the house as it were theirs. Thanks then for helping me to maintain it tidy.

Anyway, I can offer extra cleaning services during your stay if you wish. My recommendation: 1 time / week, 4 hours (30 euros).

During the week, just be a bit careful with the order. So the house looks bigger and more welcoming!

2. STORAGE ROOM

In the dormitory there is a storage room where suitcases and other large objects can be stored. There you will also find the vacuum cleaner, the iron and other useful utensils, as for the beach, rain, etc.

In this space I also keep, in plastic boxes, some personal objects of mine (clothes, basically). This is the only one I ask not to touch because they aren't really interesting, at all!

3. HOT WATER

The water heater is smart, so it is very easy to have hot water for the bath or the kitchen. Simply open the hot water tap, wait a few seconds, and you're done!

If by chance the hot water will cool, it is also very easy to solve: you have to close the faucet for a few seconds, and then reopen! That's it!

4. WASHING MACHINE

The washing machine (Samsung) is very simple to use:
- place the detergent and softener in the corresponding deposits,
- press the ON button,
- choose the program with the selection wheel (normally the 15 minutes program is enough and eco-friendly),
- press the PLAY button.

4. AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING

Ventilation and the size of the house does not justify the need for air conditioning. Try to open the balcony windows!

The climate of Lisbon is quite mild in winter, but sometimes it needs more heat. There is in the house a heater large enough to heat the whole house!

5. SEPARATION OF GARBAGE

In my house I separate the garbage (organic, paper, plastic and glass) and leave adequate containers for it. It's very easy, but your are free to not do it :-)

The neighborhood recyclable crates are very close, and I can leave with you a small map with the exact location. Organic garbage can be dumped after 6:00 pm in the crates on the street, just around the corner at the foot of the building. The municipal garbage collection is done every day.

6. INTERNET, TV, SOUND AND OTHER TECHNOLOGIES

The house has internet services, wi-fi and cable TV.

In the living room, there is a sound bar to connect any type of device via bluetooth. Live the music!

I usually do not use television, because I prefer music and mobile devices to surf the internet or watch cable TV.

7. BALCONIES

My house has two wonderful balconies to contemplate the landscape of the city. The windows are double glazed, which greatly reduces the sound from the outside.

These windows have door handles with 3 opening positions:
- closed (6 o'clock)
- open (3 o'clock)
- semi-open (allows to renew the air without the need to open the whole window) (12 o'clock).

Choosing the type of window opening is very easy, but you have to do it smoothly without forcing the handle!

8. ABOUT SMOKERS

My house is your home, so if you smoke, you can do it indoors, there are ashtrays for that!

However, please do not smoke inside the dorm !! Thank you!

9. ENTRANCE DOOR OF THE BUILDING

The door lock must be opened carefully, without forcing. It has a lot of use and so, sometimes, it is a bit tricky!

10. OTHER ISSUES

Any questions about the operation or use of the equipment, I am always available to help solve them.

Smoking is allowed indoors and outdoors.

How do I book?

Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.

When do I pay?

Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 199 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.

When can I share my contact details?

Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
