Homestay.com surveyed travelers to determine in which home of a famous TV family that they would prefer to stay. Southfork Ranch? A trip to Bel Air? Or even a visit to the Bluth frozen banana stand?
The Pritchetts of ABC’s Modern Family came out as the top family by an almost two-to-one margin. Three distinct generations marked the top three TV families chosen: Modern Family, Downton Abbey (Crawleys) and Happy Days (Cunninghams), reflecting the diversity of experiences travelers seek in their lodging choices.
Homestay.com may not be able to turn this TV home fantasy into reality, but it does allow travelers to pick where they want to stay, see what their lodging choices look like, and get to know their host before hitting the road. Homestay.com’s hosted travel experience matches guests searching for accommodations with hosts who want to rent a room on a nightly, weekly or monthly basis. Travelers looking for lodging can search by location and available dates and refine their search after learning more about the amenities, neighborhood and host.
The top five responses were:

3. Cunninghams – Happy Days
4. Huxtables – The Cosby Show
5. Addams – The Addams Family
A variety of iconic homes and destinations also received votes including the Lannisters from Game of Thrones, Ricardos from I Love Lucy, and Married With Children’s Bundys.
Modern Family elicited comments ranging from “a home filled with fun and laughs” to “a comfortable, zany house” to “a family with intelligence, humor and wit,” reinforcing the value of the host in the homestay experience.
The homestay sector has grown in popularity, moving into the mainstream as travelers seek out a more authentic local travel experience where they can benefit from the hospitality and local knowledge of the host. Homestay.com estimates that the global homestay market spend is in the region of $13 billion.
