Zhiqiang was a friendly young man, he kept his room very clean. I find it hard in relation to when it came to sharing my kitchen. All our self catering homestay guests prior to Zhiqiang wouldn't have taken over the kitchen as much or indeed have brought their own equipment. I just don't think Zhiqiang quite understood the difference between homestay and house share, I had to ask that he not start cooking late at night. I found it hard to go to sleep with the smell of cooking going on.
Living in a family home is very different to sharing a house with other paying housemates. I found i had to remind him not do certain things, which had been explained. I do think it's important for students or guests try to understand the cultural difference they encounter when staying in their home stays. I wish Zhiqiang best wishes in his future and a very safe trip back to China.
