Toshiko-san was a wonderful Homestay host while I was in my 20 day vacation in Japan. She gave me advice and recommendations for where to go during my trip which was a delight! I highly recommend going here if your going to Tokyo. It's a little ways out, however, you can still experience Japan in it's fullest while being far from Tokyo. Thank you again for having me Toshiko-san!

We absolutely enjoyed our stay with Yuriko-san and Jin-san. They were excellent hosts, they made us feel welcome and cared for. We loved chatting with them via Google translate each day over a delicious breakfast.
The room was clean, spacious and had warm character like a home instead of staying at a hotel with no personality.
By the end of our short stay we felt sad leaving, like we were saying good bye to our family!
The area is lovely part of Tokyo, not touristy. It feels like part of a Ghibli movie. Authentic.

I had a magnificent time with the Sakura family. Often I ate my dinner together with the whole family - parents, the two wonderful kids and the lovely grandmother. If only my Japanese would have been better... But the mother is English teacher (mostly online classes from home) and is of cause very good in speaking English.

I often came up to join the family in their living room und we played Wii-U and a card game. There has been other guests doing the same or people that never showed up, so it is up to you. But I enjoyed the time with the family a lot.

As they are in the middle of an area for living, the next station is some way to go. That was no problem for me, but if you need a fast connection to the city-center, this might be a drawback.

Kana war eine soooo tolle Gastmama, sie hat uns immer geholfen und Insider Tipps gegeben. Das Zimmer ist vergleichsweise zum Hotel in Nagoya groß bei Kana und sehr gut erreichbar gewesen mit der Oedo Line. Hoffentlich sehen wir uns bald wieder!

I stayed with Sachiko-san for my first time traveling to Japan, and I can wholeheartedly say that it elevated my experience and made an extremely pleasant two-week trip.

It's immediately obvious that Sachiko-san has been doing homestays for 10 years - her house, which is super charming, is very well organised for herself and her guests alike. The room I stayed in was clean and cozy, and I had no issues sharing the bathroom and shower room with the other guests. The house is also located around a 15 minute walk from the closest train station, where all of Tokyo will open up to you, and Sachiko-san will happily give you TONS of recommendations for local places to eat, shop and enjoy the sights. Sachiko-san herself is friendly, corteous and happy to help you enjoy yourself in her home and in Japan. If she's home and has the time, she will be happy to converse with you - I had tons of fun talking about all kinds of things with her, she's very easy to talk to. She became my Japanese mom away from home :) She's also a very good person to practice your Japanese with if that interests you - I feel like I really honed my conversation abilities chatting with her. She's a great teacher.

If you wish to immerse yourself in Japanese culture and have a home away from the hustle and bustle to relax while also having Tokyo at your fingertips, I highly recommend staying with Sachiko-san. It's affordable, comfortable and everything you could every want. I can't wait to come back :)

Although I don't speak Japanese, the family was nice and very patient and tried to help me a lot. The room was beautiful and cozy. The breakfasts were delicious. I definitely recommend it.

Chieko Is really a sweet woman, although under some unfortunate circumstances we sadly didn't see each other until the last 2 days, her brother took was there and we enjoyed our time a little. They are both good hosts, and I wish that chieko would have been there since the beginning! Her brother took me out to eat on the first day, and showed me the city a little. The view from their balcony is lovely too, especially at night. I can definitely recommend.

Staying here was a great time but unfortunately it was only for a short time but my brother Chieko came to take care of me instead and it was a great time. We did many activities together and it was fun. I was very impressed.

I stayed at Tomoko's place for just over a month and I am truly grateful for the experience. Her cooking was always delicious and her cats never failed to brighten my day. Tomoko would often recommend great places to visit such as a limited time godzilla art exhibit or the annual
Kurayami festival. My adventure in Tokyo was made much more enjoyable thanks to her advice. Chatting with the other guests at breakfast and dinner was a great way to get to know people. I'm surprised at how well I managed since I'm not too used to socialising but Tomoko's place just has such a nice feel to it. I couldn't recommend it more.

I had a wonderful three-week stay with Yoko-san and Aki-san and will hope to return on my next visit. The two bedrooms were perfectly functional (bed, desk, closet, TV, windows) light, and quiet. They share a toilet and washroom/bathroom (with an excellent shower) on the ground floor with the host family on the upper floors. Aki-san is home during the day and is very sociable. He is eager to communicate and is quite the comedian. Yoko-san works during the weekday but is very friendly and solicitous when home. They are both genuinely nice people and take their roles seriously. The neighborhood is quiet but has konbinis, supermarkets, pharmacies and a library close by. It is a 12-minute walk to the very useful Marinouchi subway line, but, best of all, bus lines are at the end of the road which service Shinjuku (twenty minutes) and Shibuya (thirty minutes). I can highly recommend this homestay.

Could not have been a better start for my honeymoon in Japan. Hiroko went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. Her place is even better than what the pictures and descriptions say. It’s a big house even for international standards. Everything was very clean, spotless and the whole place was decorated with a cute bunny character called “mifi”, also decoration was actually stylish. The interaction with other guests and family felt really warm and we ate at the dinner table as if we were a family, such a positive experience to have, and not even once there was a feeling of awkwardness. I can really keep on praising the stay but in brief, don’t even doubt for a second about staying here. Even if it’s not in your plans, keep a day or two to stay with Hiroko, it will be one of the highlights of your trip.

The host was very welcoming. The location is great in a quiet neighbourhood. Close to the Chou line which gives one easy access to Tokyo. I would recommend this homestay.

This was my 2nd time stay with Toshiko and Tomeji, coming to Tokyo I wouldnt stay anywhere else. Both are very welcoming and very helpful, always willing to assist and offer their advice. Their home is quite large and is always clean and tidy.
The meals are always freshly prepared and consist of a large variety of different food types, all very delicious.
If you are looking for a home, rather than a room then Toshiko and Tomeji will definately look after you.
I fully recommend staying.

My girlfriend and I absolutely loved our stay with Yoko-san, Aki-san (her husband), Gin-chan (the wise 18-year-old cat), and Yuki-chan (the sweet 11-year-old cat).

From the moment we arrived, Yoko-san and Aki-san were incredibly warm and welcoming. I only wish we had stayed longer than three nights. It truly felt like a home away from home. Despite the language barrier, Aki-san shared his stories with such infectious enthusiasm and animated gestures that we were always smiling and laughing. Yoko-san, who speaks excellent English, gave us thoughtful recommendations about the city and must-see local spots. It was also heartwarming to see the way she lovingly looks at her cats: her “children,” Gin-chan and Yuki-chan.

Being able to witness Yuki-chan’s one-sided love for Gin-chan was especially adorable and added a unique charm to our stay.

Yoko-san was also wonderfully communicative on WhatsApp. She was always on top of things, helping us arrange luggage forwarding and providing clear, detailed instructions on how to find her home. Everything was incredibly well organized and smooth, thanks to her care and attention.

If you are looking for a genuine local experience filled with kindness, warmth, and a touch of feline love, we wholeheartedly recommend staying with Yoko-san and Aki-san. Just don’t forget to bring an omiyage. You will be glad that you did!

Thank you for taking such good care of and showing concern for my child over the past two weeks, as well as for helping to enforce the basic rules. This kind of structure is a great influence on a high school student.

I believe he truly felt the warmth and comfort of being in a home. Even during the second week, when I stayed with him and shared a room at your place, you continued to treat us with such warmth—it felt like being cared for by an older sister.

Yoko-san and Aki-san made me feel so welcome and part of the family for my short stay of 5 days.
Both hosts had me laughing daily not to mention their lovely cats treated me well too!
It was a lovely experience to have a meal together on the first and last night of my stay and the hosts provided all bathroom and bedding amenities necessary with the bedroom in top shape.
The language barrier was no problem as both hosts could speak English very well and also allowed me to practice my beginner Japanese with them.
The location of the homestay was very easy to navigate to central areas such as Shinjuku and Shibuya by bus and then use the subway from there if necessary.
I would love to stay with Yoko and Aki again and highly recommend their homestay!

Tomoko and her guesthouse are absolutely wonderful! From the home cooked meals to the fun atmosphere and the cats! My girlfriend has a particular diet and Tomoko took extra care and time to prepare meals accordingly which we really appreciated and they were so delicious. She took the time to explain various things about Japanese culture so we really felt like we were learning a lot, and the house is big and very clean. There is an Onsen very close and a supermarket nearby. Tachikawa is about an hour away by metro from Tokyo center but Tachikawa itself is very charming and beautiful anyway. We truly cannot recommend this stay enough!

Tae and her husband are incredibly hospitable. We always had home-cooked food from Tae in the evening and it was always very sociable. We talked a lot about our cultures and also played games in the evenings.
Even after our stay, Tae helped me with a problem.
One of the best stays on our trip to Japan. We would love to come back anytime.

Mayumi was an excellent host! I was quite sad to be leaving after such a warm welcome into her family. I would highly reccomend people to stay, if they would like to know how it is to live with a Japanese family.

This a the quintessential traditional Japanese homestay! The Tatami mats in living area and your bedroom are the real deal! Horigotatsu/Kotatsu in the that is fully interchangeable to transform the living area into a functional yoga space that luckily has an in-house instructor, Yuki! From the traditional futon bedding to the hybrid shower/bath this stay gives you a taste of how it used to be. Keith and Yuki are accommodating, friendly and very knowledgeable on the region. We really enjoyed our time there and regret doing it towards the end of our trip and should have done it at the start so we could have spent more time exploring the area. Thanks Keith and Yuki for welcoming us into your home!

Saif is a great guy who did everything he could to help me have a good time during my trip. I stayed with him September 2024, needless to say it was very hot in Tokyo during my stay. Fortunately, the room didn't only offer a very comfortable bed but also Air Conditioning. I had the room for myself, while Saif slept in the other room (kitchen/living room) in the corner behind a room divider. Saif's apartment is in a calm area in Shinjuku, only a 10-minute walk, maybe even less, from a subway station. So it was very easy to get around.

Since Saif works a lot and I booked the room last-minute, we didn't get a chance to hang out besides talking a bit in the apartment in the evening or in the morning. But I really enjoeyd these short interactions with him. He was kind and accommodating, let me use his umbrella and gave me some advice about Tokyo. On the morning of my departure he made Indian breakfast, which was a very nice and delicious experience (he loves to cook for other people). Thanks again Saif, and sorry for the late review! I hope you are doing well.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have found Juanella through the internet—she is an absolutely wonderful host. Her home is spotless, beautifully organized, and has a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes guests feel right at home.

What truly sets Juanella apart is her generosity and thoughtfulness. She went above and beyond by introducing my son to her students and friends, helping him not only learn about Japanese culture but also build meaningful connections with local people. Her kindness and support have had a lasting impact on our experience.

I had an AMAZING homestay with Sean! Sean was really welcoming, friendly, and hospitable. He made my stay super comfortable and he was so ready to help me out with any difficulties I had. He even prepared guides for me on how to travel to and fro from the Airport. Sean provided me with so many things, more than I could have asked for! He always checked in on me to see if I was doing okay. I can truly say that I made a good friend over this homestay period. I really enjoy my time with Sean, from the meals and drinks we ate together, and to the laughers we shared. My only regret is not being able to make more time for him as I was too busy travelling around. I wish I had more time to hang out with Sean! We really got to share our lives with each other, learning more about each others' culture and countries.

Sean, if you're seeing this, I am deeply grateful and honored to be your friend and your first homestay guest! Even though our time together was short, I will always reach out to you whenever I am back in Tokyo, and we can have catch up over a good meal, with loads of laugher! Always rooting for you in your work and life!
