Greetings from SenegalStyle!
We are an Anglophone family living in Francophone Dakar, Senegal, West Africa. If you have always wanted to learn French (or Arabic) abroad but can't afford the expense of living in Paris and don't want your passport flagged for going to an Arabic country, Senegal is the best location for your study or travel needs! The level of French spoken (and taught) here is the highest outside of France and as Senegal is a very calm Muslim country as well (Islam 'light' I call it!) there are many Islamic scholars that can teach you Arabic as a language for journalism students for example.
I am American myself, having moved here in 1999 with my 3 children, all of whom went to Senegalese schools and are fluent in both French and English. All are adults now and the oldest two have moved back to the US for university, graduated and are now working. My youngest (son) is 20 yrs old and is a student here in Dakar.
Because I'm the 'cool mom' on the block with football parties, chess clubs, and mentoring young people in general, our home is welcoming to everyone, Senegalese friends of my son and visitors to this lovely country as well. You will meet fellow travelers and other students and make friends that you will remember the rest of your life.
Meals, both breakfast AND DINNER are priced separately (5,000cfa a day in local currency, about $8) so you don't have the expense (and worry!) of taking a taxi for eating out every day. I'm a really good cook and can accommodate vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free diets as well as 'throw down' southern style for people who just like to eat!

About the Area
SenegalStyle is about 10 minutes walk from the beach and surrounded on both sides by the main highways for easy access to public transportation. We are about 15 minutes drive from downtown (during off times!) and in a very lovely middle class neighborhood. There's a dirt football pitch & matches every weekend on the next block and the major stadium for sporting events is about a 20 minute walk (which is easier than driving to avoid traffic!).

House Rules
#1 - no smoking inside the room/house.
#2 - please respect the cleanliness of our home - if you take it out, put it back, if you mess it up, clean it up and no shoes on the furniture! Yes, I'm just like your mom! Also bring house shoes, removing your outside shoes at the door, Asian style.
#3 - no parties, no drugs and no bringing home 'friends' that you just met here in Senegal 2 days ago... this is not a brothel! lol! For security purposes please meet outside people outside as I don't want them coming back to my house to 'visit' after you leave. Many times tourist touts be'friend' visitors so they can come back and be'friend' others later. We have visitors coming and going from all over the world and I would prefer not to have strangers in my home for their safety and mine so please respect that and keep our address confidential and the front door locked.

How do I book?
Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.
When do I pay?
Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.
When can I share my contact details?
Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
