My husband and I stay in a seaside village named Pearly Beach. It is situated in the town of Gansbaai, about 180km from the city-centre of Cape Town. My husband and I relocated here after he opted for early retirement. I am a Tour Guide and enjoy meeting people from around the world. We have three children, two of which are medical professionals and the youngest is in her fifth year of studies for a medical degree. Our youngest daughter still lives with us.
We have three bedrooms available with a queen-sized bed in each room. One bedroom has an en-suite bathroom whereas the other two bedrooms have an adjoining en-suite bathroom to share. The upper floor of our home has an open plan kitchen/dinning room and lounge. On a good day we can see the Southern Right whale frolicking in the ocean while we have breakfast. We have a wrap-around balcony on the upper floor where one can catch a golden suntan and have a traditional South African "braai" (barbeque), or just watch the spectacular sun set upon the ocean. We also enjoy sun-downers on the longest uninterrupted stretch of beach in the Western Cape. Our house is a 3-minute walk to the beach.
We love exploring this side of the world and often visit the exquisite Wine Farms or one of the fine restaurants in the countryside nearby.

About the Area

Our house is located in a quiet sea-side suburb. We are basically situated between the ocean and the country side. The area is safe, and most of the natural surroundings remain untouched. Locals are protective of the nature in the area, and strive to maintain its unspoiled beauty. Pearly Beach is a haven for nature lovers, as there are hundreds of species of indigenous vegetation, birds and other wildlife. Pearly Beach boasts many species of 'Fynbos vegetation', which may not be found anywhere else in the world. The house is a 5-minute walk away from endless white stretches of beach. During whale-watching season (July- Nov), the Southern Right whales can sometimes be seen from our house. The beach is popular for fishing, mussel-collecting and long walks on the uninterrupted white sandy beach during the winter months. (May to August). Whereas it can become bustling and lively during the hot summer season (Oct-March) with holiday-makers from all over the world. During the month of December we have Lifeguards patrolling the beach while swimmers enjoy the cool ocean and it becomes very festive this time of the year. At the entrance to Pearly Beach, there are two local pubs and two convenience stores, although, the vast majority of the area is not commercialized. The permanent residents living in Pearly Beach consist mainly of retired people but this in no way makes this little town dull and boring. There is so much to do in the Overberg area. When we get tired of the ocean we drive into the country side and visit some of Africa's most southern tip wine farms. Or visit Africa's most southern tip, Cape Augulhas.
