Captain's Lodge situated 4Km from the Colombo Kandy road lies this fascinating bungalow called 'Captain's Lodge' a time forgotten place owned by an Airline Pilot.

The tranquil surroundings, scenic settings, it's unique view of Lankathileke temple
and incomparable location in the loop of the 'three temples' makes it an unforgettable holiday experience.

The bungalow itself is surrounded by a lush tea plantation and many species of birds are regular visitors to it's garden

'Hambawa' the elusive nocturnal flying squirrel has been spotted feasting on Jak fruits and a group of langur monkeys have dropped in to say ' hello' also a lone peacock has been spotted loitering in the garden.

Colonial architecture, antique furniture, old family photos derive a sense of it's aristocracy of the family whose history connected to kings of bygone era where some members were custodians of the tooth relic in Kandy. One member was knighted by the present Queen Elizabeth for services to the British Empire. The ancestors of this family was once entrusted to look after young 'Robert Knox' a famous British sailor and plaque to this event is still preserved close by.

on the wall hang pictures of Ceylon Aviation history where the present owner comes from an Aviation back ground with his father, the first jet captain in Ceylon which creates a museum type feeling.

Well known author Royston Ellis once a visitor to Captain's Lodge and returned again to savor the delights of it's peace and tranquility.

The caretaker whose ancestors with the family for 2 centuries will take care of you with authentic Kandyan Sri Lankan food with fresh vegetables obtained from the gardens of the nearby villagers.

Villagers are very friendly and helpful as there ancestors worked for the family and used to mainly European tourists taking a short cut through estate.

About the Area

The bungalow is located 4Km from the Colombo Kandy road in very peaceful surroundings overlooking ' Lankathileke ' a 14th century temple, a fantastic building built at a scenic location on a natural rock.
The road to Captain's Lodge takes you through paddy fields, tea plantations and many sceneries of Sri Lankan typical country site while the bungalow itself is surrounded by a 100 acres of tea estate.
Ideal place for those who love nature and peacefulness of mind. Also perfect for Hiking in the nature.
Further more, this fantastic bungalow has so many near by attractions to visit.

The Sacred city of Kandy, situated in a nice geographical location in a valley at an elevation of 1900 feet, inside a wide loop of the Mahaweli River - the longest in Sri Lanka, surrounded by hills, covered with tropical vegetation, preserves many cultural values being the home for the temple of the Tooth Relic. It is 30 minutes drive away from 'Captain's Lodge'.

If you are tea lover, Sri Lanka is renowned for manufacturing world's best tea,where Hantane and Ceylon Tea museum becomes an essential stop of your visit to Sri Lanka which is 45 minutes drive away from our bungalow.
Also the Giragama tea factory is just 10 minutes drive.

Sri Lanka's largest botanical garden in Peradeniya covering 60 hectares is a 20 minutes drive.

Thousands come to Sri Lanka to watch cricket at the International Stadium and the victoria Golf is a 1 hour drive.

Lankathileke, Gadoladeniya and Embekke temples in walking distance.
Lankathileke is a magnificent building built on rock at a scenic location which has fine paintings.Gadaladeniya a 14th century temple also built on a rock of which the structure is influenced by the South Indian architecture. Embekke is famous for it's intricate wooden carvings of the 14th century. Almost the entire structures of some wooden buildings are decorated with dancers, musicians, wrestlers legendary beasts and birds.

Pilimathalawa is probably the best place to buy most of the bronze artifacts produced in Sri Lanka. On the way to 'Captain's Lodge' at a distance of 4Km is a small hamlet with lots of boutiques with bronze artifacts on either sides of the road. It is a village born industry which came father to son.

At Kundasale, about 4Kms from Kandy, a village has been established recently to settle local craftsmen and their families.Visitors could watch craftsmen at work and purchase their product on site.

Elephant orphanage is one of the must see places of one's visit to Sri Lanka which is just one hour away from the bungalow.

Newly Established railway museum is in Kadugannawa only a 20 minutes from the location.

The Pilimathalawa town at a 20 minutes drive has banks, super markets, pharmacies, etc to fulfill essentials of one's day to day life while the city of Kandy provides all the kinds of amenities ranges from luxury to middle range.

The house is with lots of items that have cultural and antique value. Therefore please be mindful of any mishaps. In case of any damage of any of the item in the property, necessary charges will apply.
In an event of guests with kids, they are required to use the bed covering sheet for protection of the mattress.

How do I book?

When do I pay?

Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.

When can I share my contact details?

Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
