Definitely a gem in northern Thailand! This homestay is as authentic as you can get, with beautiful teak huts situated in a garden surrounded by forests away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although the village is quite small, there are massive caves walking distance to Pen's place and Pen serves breakfast lunch and dinner at her restaurant, attached to the homestay. It is a bit more expensive than what you would get in the city, however the price reflects the portion size and quality of ingredient (all grown and harvested in Pen's garden). Definitely a home away from home is you are looking for a homestay that is one with nature and exemplifies life in northern Thailand.

Upon arrival we found that our room was overbooked. We were offered a matress on the floor with a separate, external bathroom for the same money as we had paid for a private bungalow. No real apology was offered and Pen did not really acknowledge that a mistake had been made. To make matters worse, we were accused of wanting a bungalow at cheaper homestay prices! We refused to accept this and a French family were asked to leave early so we could have the private bungalow. The bungalow was nice in a peaceful part of the garden but very small with no soap, shampoo or water provided.
Food was ok but expensive and we question the "totally organic" line. We weren't particularly happy with the overall experience and our feelings are similar to the recent review on this site.

Nice setting . Not much to do in area hard to get taxi back and for to town. Think pen should have a scooter available for rent at the premises .i think there should be tea and coffee available free at communal area all day . Breakfast and food on site expensive in comparison to resteraunt next door . We thought light breakfast was included but wasn't charged us for breakfast and coffee . Caves are within walking distance . Pen only Seems interested in you if you want to book trekking or trips with her. We were not impressed really. The hut by the entrance gate was very noisey all day and night from traffic and building work on site

Our Home stay with Pen was really great! We loved staying in Tham Lot, a little mountain village where you can go hiking (Pen's dog "Milky" will happily accompany you) or visit the caves.

The Home stay consisted of different bungalow style huts on a big property. You can eat at the Home stay (Pen cooks with organically grown veggies and herbs that she is growing herself and "safe meat" from her butcher friend) or one of the local restaurants. Pen's cooking was always very delicious and she was more than happy to look after our individual needs (I had diarrhea :/ )

We only stayed for a couple of nights and there were a few other travelers staying at the same time as us. You are likely to meet at the chill out area near the kitchen and can then chat and play cards if you feel like some company.
