I'm a television/film writer and producer. I'm also the co-founder of the Caribbean Memory Project--an open-access digital heritage archive. My work puts me in touch with people of all backgrounds, so I'm especially happy to host guests since they are often adventurous, tolerant, open-minded, and genuinely interesting people. My goal is to provide you with an authentic "Trini" experience: a laid-back, unpretentious, spontaneous immersion into Caribbean life, so when your trip is over, you'll feel a sense of belonging and community that you'd never get at a hotel.

I work from home, but you'll often find me in various parts of Trinidad and Tobago documenting the stories of everyday people. If you're a returning ex-pat, please ask me about my Roots & Records Experience that will help you to (re)connect to your past through (sometimes new) family members, old photographs, and family archives! I'll document the experience for you and provide you with a digital keepsake you'll always have to treasure!

Feel free to ask anything about Trinidad even if you don't stay. I'm happy to help and I look forward to meeting and hosting you in the near future!

About the Area

My home is located in the popular Port of Spain suburb of Diego Martin. It's a relatively quiet, down to earth, and typical Trini neighbourhood. From time to time, you'll hear my neighbours talking or playing music, but it's mostly quiet. Respect for the neighbours is appreciated.

Getting around

I can arrange a car rental or personal driver for you, but I'm very happy to assist anyone who wants to use local transportation/taxi services on their own. Feel free to download TT Rideshare and/or Drop Taxi Service, our local versions of Uber/Lyft.

My home is a seven to ten-minute walk from public transportation (taxis, buses, and minibuses or maxi-taxis). There is a mini shopping complex nearby, which includes a fairly large and well-stocked supermarket, a pharmacy, a dentist, a bakery, and a couple fast food chains (Subway, Dairy Queen, and local pizzeria, Marios). Restaurants, shopping, beaches, golfing, hiking, sailing, and other attractions are also within close proximity. I do airport pick-ups and transfers to Port of Spain, party drop-offs and pick-ups for additional fees (US$10$25 range).

House Rules

- Please do not use any candles.
- No parties or gatherings allowed. Please respect our rate schedule so that we can keep the base price low for the first two guests. Additional guests after the first two people, including children, are required to pay the listed fee per person anywhere on the property, whether or not that person shares a bed, sleeps on the couch, or on the floor. Minimum booking nights apply.
- I try to conserve energy as much as possible so please unplug/turn off all electrical devices (cell phone chargers, lamps, lights, electric fans, bug repellent devices, etc.) when not in use and when you leave the house.

- Smoking only allowed in the patio and outside the house. Kindly ensure that the door to the master bedroom remains closed while you smoke.

- Guests must wash up dishes and clean up kitchen counters after meals. Please ensure there are no dishes left in the sink upon check out.

- Please dispose of food waste in the kitchen trash can. Bins placed in your room should be used only for waste paper, floss, etc.

- Recycling of plastic and glass items is mandatory.

- Please do not brush your teeth in the kitchen sink. If you're sharing a bath and it is unavailable, please be patient and await your turn.

-Please be considerate and do not hog the shared bathroom. Other guests may need to use it.

- Eating in the bedrooms is not advised as this is a tropical country and any crumbs left behind may attract ants (to your own detriment).

- You may help yourself to the complimentary tea, coffee, and water provided at any time. Do note that it's up to you to replenish it if it runs out during your stay, but it's not necessary to replace it at the end of your visit.

- Please close windows and ensure all doors are locked when you leave the house.

- Please avoid using tanning products, bronzers, face/body makeup, and body when you go to sleep or use the bed, as the oils and dyes rub off on towels and sheets and they do not wash out. If these products are a must for you, please either bring your own sheets, pillow cases and towels and use them instead, or be prepared to be charged for replacements if they are soiled.

You must also acknowledge there there is potential for noise - Adjoining neighbours nearby can be heard at various times, but it's mostly quiet.
Some spaces are shared - Living room and kitchen.

Smoking Rules

Your host is a non-smoker.

Smoking is not allowed.

I had a fabulous time staying at Dawn's place. We went on lots of excursions together and I saw parts of Trinidad which were off the beaten track thanks to her. Dawn was always suggesting things to do if an itinerary couldn't come together for reasons out of her control. Her home is very comfortable and I was made to feel very welcome. We had some very interesting conversations about each others lives and wouldn't hesitate in recommending a stay here.

I stayed with Dawn March 31st-April 5th. She was an amazing and accommodating hostess. Her home was clean, comfortable, and the Wi-Fi worked great :) She had Netflix available to use and all this was a great bonus for me as I needed good Wi-Fi to work on my business!
She picked me up from the airport on time even though my flight was delayed by several hours. She's extremely knowledgeable about Trinidad and Tobago, the overall current and past history which was quite a treat as she gives an unbiased account of the countries politics good and bad.

Initially upon booking with her, she offered me a tour package for the week which I, foolishly, declined thinking Port of Spain was more walkable than it was. She's central to many close necessities such resturants, banks, and downtown itself, however to get to the "good stuff" I would advise doing her complete tour package or at least a few individual ones to maximize your time and money.

I ended up missing out on some valuable sights by trying to tackle it my way. I did end up doing one tour with her on my final day which was completely awesome and personalized! She basically makes a whole day of seeing all that Trinidad has to offer in bits and pieces and u get a private guide which is always nice. She's puts her own touches on the tour and that adds to the charm. I'm planning on returning to TT in a few months as the people are very friendly and the US dollar stretches far ($1USD =$7tt right now)
It's an eco friendly country with much to see and do, and often gets a bad rap, however I found it to be far from the way it's sometimes described.

I highly recommend Dawn's home, she provides exceptional service at a great value. To me I got way more than I paid for and that's what counts at the end of the day.

How do I book?

Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.

When do I pay?

You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile.
