Alex and I live in a four bed house in Edinburgh, the beautiful historic capital city of Scotland.
You can walk to the city centre in 30 minutes or if you take the bus it takes about 10 minutes. The bus service is frequent, reliable and driven by friendly helpful drivers.
We have a large sitting room, dining room and kitchen.
In addition we have a large conservatory where it is wonderful to sit and relax whilst looking out into our extensive back garden.
This is an ideal place for student doctors to do their month or so working in another hospital as I am within walking distance of the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh and on the bus route for the Western General. I am also well situated for students who need to study at Bush Research place at Roslin. I am on the bus route and the journey is short.
Edinburgh is a safe friendly city which provides plenty to do.
As a university city, with 4 universities, it is vibrant, with many places to eat out, providing dishes from all over the world, and a great variety of places to go for entertainment in the evenings.
In August there is a huge festival providing 24 hours of theatre and entertainment. There is an abundance of places to visit including the castle, the palace, the old city and the new town, theatres, cinemas, art galleries, museums, beaches, ghost tours, golf, horse riding, sailing, swimming pools and gyms. Further afield there are many places to visit such as a tour of the Highlands to see 'Nessie', the Loch Ness Monster.

I stayed with Catherine and Alex for two months and they made me feel like home. They took really good care of me, helping me solve my daily problems and always giving good advice. They were very friendly and nice with me. I have really enjoyed my time with them!

I spent a month with Catherine and Alexander, and would definitely recommend this host family for anyone looking for a great experience in Edinburgh. You couldn’t ask for nicer people. They were caring (always asking me about my day and my plans), friendly, thoughtful, gave me good tips about what to do in Edinburgh and many times went out of their way to help me. They are keen on interacting with guests, but will also respect your privacy. House is clean, tidy, and located in a safe and quite neighborhood, with bus stops close by. Food was great (they really kept me well fed – and introduced me to shortbreads!). I’ve just returned, but I miss them already. Again: definitely recommended!

We got a double bed even though our room was actually a twin room. That was great, but since it was a folding bed it was not all that comfortable. The room was big and there is a bus station in front of the house, that was very handy. It was nice that we got vegetarian dinner every evening, food was fair. They gave us much advice on what there is to do and see in the area and they liked to ask us about our plans.
