Minimum stay bookings must be 2 nights or more - 1 night not accepted. Arrival times should be after 3 pm and departure times before 10 am. Please let us know your ETA. With a beautiful garden space and local amenities, this is the perfect place to use as a base whilst you explore York. Regular buses and trains from the village mean you are never far from the city centre. There are 2 very welcoming pubs in the village for nights when you prefer to stay local. Bed and breakfast only, lunch and dinner not included. For long term guests (1 week and more), sheet/towel washing/changing and room cleaning is included but personal laundry will be £10 per guest per week.
The space
Lovely family home in the attractive village of Poppleton, with easy access to York city. The village has lovely river walks, public houses and good local amenities. You will have either your own private double bedroom, with very comfy bed, wardrobe, drawers and desk, all kept to a high standard of cleanliness or a choice of three single rooms all up to the same standard. There is also a room with sofa-bed which can quickly be made up to be a further bedroom if required. You will have access to a shared family bathroom.

About the Area
Our house is on the north side of the city centre and only 2 mins walk from the bus stop (buses run every 30 mins into and back from York city - a 20 min ride). A train from York station is also accessible. There are plenty of beautiful walks to take around the quiet village and amenities to satisfy all requirements (pubs, groceries, newsagents, hairdressers, cafes, doctors, pharmacy etc).

Hosts can offer a complimentary light breakfast at their discretion. All other meals, including a full breakfast, might incur an additional cost, if offered. Meals and any additional payment should be arranged directly with your host.

House Rules
Minimum stay bookings must be 2 days or more. 1 night not accepted. No laundry to be undertaken in the bathroom. All laundry required by long-stay guests can be carried out by hosts for £10 per week. Please keep shower time to a minimum so as to maintain hot water flow for other users. Preferably, NO TAKEAWAYS to be brought into the house for dinner (either eat meals provided on request or eat out in village and city centre). Any food brought in must be eaten at breakfast table provided NOT bedroom. Please keep noise to a minimum after 10.00 - 10.30 pm and before 08.30 when we usually are in bed. Leave mobile phones on carpet not desk to reduce incoming call "buzzing" (which can be heard in other bedrooms).
Payment method: Please note that we require 50% of the booking total to us in advance of the booking to hold your room (on top of the 15% deposit which is paid to Homestay.com)
Cancellation Policy: We ask our guests to give us at least 7 days' notice for any cancellation. Any cancellation later than this will not be refunded.

I had the privilege of spending a month at Barry and Sandie's place. Barry was very thoughtful when I arrived when things almost went sideways, the home itself was nice, clean and I think they had all the necessary facilities. However, as a long stay guest, you can sometimes feel a little bit micromanaged on a range of things, most especially when it comes to keeping household costs low. Nevertheless, I think they are good people and most people will have a great time.

Sandra and Barry are kind and helpful hosts who made me feel very welcome and safe, which is important especially for solo travellers like myself. It was a pleasure to know them.
How do I book?
Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.
When do I pay?
Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.
When can I share my contact details?
Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
