We live in a community of 100 year old private homes originally built as one of the first suburbs of New York City. It is a Victorian style house less than 1 block from the subway, about a 20 minute ride to Mid-Town Manhattan. We have 2 sons, one who just received his Masters and another who is an actor. Neither of our sons are living with us now. We have been hosting students from around the world who come to study English in NY for about 10 years.
We have a large eat in kitchen and a pretty untamed backyard as well as a front porch where you can watch the neighborhood walk by. We are about a 10 minute walk to Prospect Park which was designed by the same team that designed its more famous sister Central Park.
The house does have wi-fi.
We provide sheets and towels so you don't have to fill your suitcases with that. While we are fine with you using the microwave and putting 1 or 2 items in the refrigerator you cannot use the kitchen to cook. There are no exceptions to this.
The prices for the rooms are standard throughout the year. A light breakfast is included in the price. Dinner is available at the price of $10 per night. You do not have to commit in advance. We can work out that arrangement when you arrive.
We have been providing Homestays for a couple of years and have enjoyed great relationships with our guests.
We always find the Homestay works best if we chat on line before you book. So please, drop us a note and ask any questions you have and we'll get right back to you.
In order to host you at this point I need you to arrive with a negative Covid test taken within the week before you arrive. I will also need you to get re-tested a few days after you arrive to confirm that you did not get exposed during your travel.
We look forward to hosting you!
Additional Info
We provide a light breakfast. If you are interested in having dinners with the family that can be arranged for an additional fee. English is the only language spoken in the house (excluding other guests). There is street parking pretty readily available.
I need to see a negative Covid test taken within 2 days of their departure and that I expect them to take a test here a few days after they arrive.
**** Please note-*** You will not have access to the kitchen. We provide a light breakfast and you are welcome to join us for dinner. Dinner can be arranged the same day and the fee is $10/night.
*** While we are still globally fighting Covid all guests will be required to take a Covid test within 3 days of arrival. There are several testing sites within walking distance of the house.

About the Area
Our house is located in the Borough of Brooklyn, one of the 5 Boroughs that make up New York City. We live about 1 block from the subway station. Prospect Park South is a very active community with private security and neighbors who keep an eye on the action on the street. The subway does run behind our house and you will probably be aware of it for a day. Then the sound seems to be absorbed and you don't notice it any more. We are about 40 minutes from Kennedy Airport and local transportation is quite good.

**** Please note-*** You will not have access to the kitchen. We provide a light breakfast and you are welcome to join us for dinner. Dinner can be arranged the same day and the fee is $10/night.

Most of the rules are common sense: no food in the bedrooms, we are a non-smoking house, keep the noise to a level that is considerate of other tenants, do not bring non-guests into the home without a prior arrangement with us. A light breakfast is included and we can make arrangements for you to join us for dinner for a very reasonable fee. We do NOT offer our guests kitchen privileges and offer only very minor refrigerator space. Do not plan to store or cook food.
Smoking is not allowed.

A few years late, but I have to compliment you guys. My time with you was the best I had in my life so far. I am looking forward to seeing you again which I will for sure!

Very kind host family, however, the room itself had many cracks in the walls, dust, musty smells, and was quite drafty/cold. the door to the room itself didn't lock on the outside. Little to no sound privacy, although great location near Prospect Park.

A kind family and a cozy home. It’s a sad place to stay short. I really want to stay again when i come to New York. I miss this place and judith’s family. I hope to see you again!

Judith and her family are kind and friendly people, my staying was comfortable and pleasant. I felt myself free. Breakfast is usually bread and jam, butter, tea, coffee,a fruit salad. Also Judith serves tasty, traditional and every day different dinners. It is not like you are staying at a hotel, there’s no cleaning in your room, but you can do laundry once a week. The location is great.
