We live in a community of 100 year old private homes originally built as one of the first suburbs of New York City. It is a Victorian style house less than 1 block from the subway, about a 20 minute ride to Mid-Town Manhattan. We have 2 sons, one who just received his Masters and another who is an actor. Neither of our sons are living with us now. We have been hosting students from around the world who come to study English in NY for about 10 years.

We have a large eat in kitchen and a pretty untamed backyard as well as a front porch where you can watch the neighborhood walk by. We are about a 10 minute walk to Prospect Park which was designed by the same team that designed its more famous sister Central Park.

The house does have wi-fi.

We provide sheets and towels so you don't have to fill your suitcases with that. While we are fine with you using the microwave and putting 1 or 2 items in the refrigerator you cannot use the kitchen to cook. There are no exceptions to this.

We do not have locks on any of the rooms in the house. In 10 years we have never had a problem. If this is a concern for you we are not the home for you.

This is our home and we do have outside obligations. I'm up early to go to work and we often have a full house so I ask for your consideration when booking your flight please do not plan to arrive at our home at 2 in the morning. We understand that there are sometimes flight delays and we'll work with that but try to arrange matters so you arrive no later than midnight.

The prices for the rooms are standard throughout the year. Payment is due on arrival in cash in full. If you are booking for several months we can discuss arrangements. A light breakfast is included in the price. Dinner is available at the price of $10 per night. You do not have to commit in advance. We can work out that arrangement when you arrive.

We have been providing Homestays for a couple of years and have enjoyed great relationships with our guests.

We always find the Homestay works best if we chat on line before you book. So please, drop us a note and ask any questions you have and we'll get right back to you.

We look forward to hosting you!

Additional Info

We provide a light breakfast. If you are interested in having dinners with the family that can be arranged for an additional fee. English is the only language spoken in the house (excluding other guests). There is street parking pretty readily available.

I need to see a negative Covid test taken within 2 days of their departure and that I expect them to take a test here a few days after they arrive.

**** Please note-*** You will not have access to the kitchen. We provide a light breakfast and you are welcome to join us for dinner. Dinner can be arranged the same day and the fee is $10/night.

*** While we are still globally fighting Covid all guests will be required to take a Covid test within 3 days of arrival. There are several testing sites within walking distance of the house.

About the Area

Our house is located in the Borough of Brooklyn, one of the 5 Boroughs that make up New York City. We live about 1 block from the subway station. Prospect Park South is a very active community with private security and neighbors who keep an eye on the action on the street. The subway does run behind our house and you will probably be aware of it for a day. Then the sound seems to be absorbed and you don't notice it any more. We are about 40 minutes from Kennedy Airport and local transportation is quite good.

House Rules

**** Please note-*** You will not have access to the kitchen. We provide a light breakfast and you are welcome to join us for dinner. Dinner can be arranged the same day and the fee is $10/night.

*** While we are still globally fighting Covid all guests will be required to take a Covid test within 3 days of arrival. There are several testing sites within walking distance of the house.

Most of the rules are common sense: no food in the bedrooms, we are a non-smoking house, keep the noise to a level that is considerate of other tenants, do not bring non-guests into the home without a prior arrangement with us. A light breakfast is included and we can make arrangements for you to join us for dinner for a very reasonable fee. We do NOT offer our guests kitchen privileges and offer only very minor refrigerator space. Do not plan to store or cook food.

Smoking Rules

Your host is a non-smoker.

Smoking is not allowed.

    Judith and Neal were Great.
    The space.....
    All as described.
I HAD imagined, in my mind, the smallest budget room that I chose, as extending to the left of the image shown, but it didn't.... and so I was a tiny bit caught out, BUT this wasn't in any way J&N trying to mislead, but me needing NOT to use my imagination to enhance my own hopes. I.e. what you see is what you get, both the room was fine, and J&N are both straight-talkin', direct and typically Brooklyn... and hence you always know where you stand with them, which is very refreshing.
Yes means yes and no means no.
The place was generally clean, well maintained, and easy to use.

    The People...
J&N are consummate storytellers... J especially enjoying regaling me with all sorts of tales and stories of the city, family, history, events and more, which I found fascinating.
They were welcoming, even in the aftermath of some close personal friend's tribulations, plus being quite ill, it being holiday period, and plenty of other things going on in their lives... they never made me feel unwanted there (tho having peeps constantly coming in and out of your home must be hard sometimes.).
I was able to come in a bit late occasionally (as I was there doing some shows), and as long as I was quiet, they were not bothered by this, and this made my stay feel further relaxed. Judith was always up for a good old chat if we met in, say, the kitchen.
I say chat, but methinks Judith's got some monologues in her.... an act all by herself... and there's a stage somewhere which has her name on it, I'd say.
Thanks for having me! It was fun, and an education.
    I'd definitely stay again.

For those who plan visiting and staying in NewYork, I can recommend Judith family for 100%
The house location is great with really good transport options, getting to Manhattan is quick and easy, so as other places...
And most important, Judith family are truly nice and welcoming! I was lucky staying with them!
    Thank you Judith and family!

This have been my first experience with Homestay and I want to recomend it 100%. I want to thanks Judith and her husband for being extremely kind and nice with us, they are so lovely! The house is in a perfect location in Brooklyn, just 3 min walking by the subway station with Q line which goes directly to the Manhattan center. Also the house is clean and quiet, the room is so big and comfortable. Just one night we were freezing and they brought us more blankets and heaters. They serve nice breakfast with the best homemade muffins I have ever tryied! We spent the most time of our days exploring the city, and we would love to have more time to spend it with Judith, as the conversations with her are funny and interesting. I highly recommend your staying in NYC with them as I would repeat it!

Judith, thank you very much for everything and hope to see you in Spain! Sending you love from Mallorca Island!
