We live in a community of 100 year old private homes originally built as one of the first suburbs of New York City. It is a Victorian style house less than 1 block from the subway, about a 20 minute ride to Mid-Town Manhattan. We have 2 sons, one who just received his Masters and another who is an actor. Neither of our sons are living with us now. We have been hosting students from around the world who come to study English in NY for about 10 years.
We have a large eat in kitchen and a pretty untamed backyard as well as a front porch where you can watch the neighborhood walk by. We are about a 10 minute walk to Prospect Park which was designed by the same team that designed its more famous sister Central Park.
The house does have wi-fi.
We provide sheets and towels so you don't have to fill your suitcases with that. While we are fine with you using the microwave and putting 1 or 2 items in the refrigerator you cannot use the kitchen to cook. There are no exceptions to this.
We do not have locks on any of the rooms in the house. In 10 years we have never had a problem. If this is a concern for you we are not the home for you.
This is our home and we do have outside obligations. I'm up early to go to work and we often have a full house so I ask for your consideration when booking your flight please do not plan to arrive at our home at 2 in the morning. We understand that there are sometimes flight delays and we'll work with that but try to arrange matters so you arrive no later than midnight.
The prices for the rooms are standard throughout the year. Payment is due on arrival in cash in full. If you are booking for several months we can discuss arrangements. A light breakfast is included in the price. Dinner is available at the price of $10 per night. You do not have to commit in advance. We can work out that arrangement when you arrive.
We have been providing Homestays for a couple of years and have enjoyed great relationships with our guests.

Additional Info
We provide a light breakfast. If you are interested in having dinners with the family that can be arranged for an additional fee. English is the only language spoken in the house (excluding other guests). There is street parking pretty readily available.
I need to see a negative Covid test taken within 2 days of their departure and that I expect them to take a test here a few days after they arrive.

About the Area
Our house is located in the Borough of Brooklyn, one of the 5 Boroughs that make up New York City. We live about 1 block from the subway station. Prospect Park South is a very active community with private security and neighbors who keep an eye on the action on the street. The subway does run behind our house and you will probably be aware of it for a day. Then the sound seems to be absorbed and you don't notice it any more. We are about 40 minutes from Kennedy Airport and local transportation is quite good.

Most of the rules are common sense: no food in the bedrooms, we are a non-smoking house, keep the noise to a level that is considerate of other tenants, do not bring non-guests into the home without a prior arrangement with us. A light breakfast is included and we can make arrangements for you to join us for dinner for a very reasonable fee. We do NOT offer our guests kitchen privileges and offer only very minor refrigerator space. Do not plan to store or cook food.

I felt comfortable and safe. It’s a cute neighborhood with easy access to the city. Judith and Neal are very chill and give you space if you want it. Perfect if you’re planning to be outside all day!

I had the most amazing stay, I felt really welcomed, Judith and Neal are carrying and always good company, I can only recommend!
Let's not forget... I never thought I could experience nyc in such great conditions, the house is lovely with a lot of space, the neighbourhood is beautiful and calm and it's really close from the subway:)

Folks, in case you plan on visiting the "Big Apple", I highly suggest you go stay at Judith's house in Brooklyn. It's located in a very nice/quiet neighbourhood! She also makes the best Mac 'n' Cheese I've ever had in my life! So... What else can I say? *10/10*!

Judith is super kind and accommodating, she's very firm on her rules but never unreasonable. I'm staying long-term for a semester with her and I've never had any issues with her or felt so restricted, just follow the house rules and double check with Judith and Neil if you're ever unsure, and it's a LOVELY stay. Judith is also a great conversationalist I should say, I really love talking with her about random things. The house is great too and everything's very convinient
How do I book?
Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.
When do I pay?
Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.
When can I share my contact details?
Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
