Kay's HomeStay for Women
I have two private furnished rooms available for international students for short-term housing. My home is located within walking distance to Boston College Law School (Newton Campus).
The rooms are on the third floor of my house where there is a bathroom, which you will share with only one other tenant. Kitchen privileges, Washer & Dryer available. All utilities and high speed internet included. This is a three-story, five-bedroom, two-bathroom, owner-occupied house.
I provide 'self-serve' breakfast items (coffee, orange juice, milk, cereal, bread and jams). Typically, once a week, I will cook a 'family dinner' and invite my two student-tenants to eat with me. However, most of the time, it's 'do your own thing' for meals.
I have been hosting semester-abroad & international graduate students in my house since 2014. Already 42 young women from all over the world have lived here. My house is located in Newton, a suburb of Boston, which is one of the safest cities in America.
I require a deposit in advance to reserve the room (the first 4 weeks rent), which is paid directly to me. There will also be a simple lease to sign.
I prefer to rent each room for an entire semester (Typically 17-18 weeks; August 20 - December 22 and January 15 - May 20).

Hi, I’m Chiara, I’m from Verona, Italy and I stayed at Kay’s house for four months during my semester abroad at Boston University.
At the beginning, I was worried about adapting to Boston since it’s a bigger city than my hometown, but Kay helped me adjust since the very beginning. She picked me up at the airport, helped me with my sim card, drove me to pick up my bus pass while explaining how transportation worked and showed me around town. She also helped when I got sick (which was a lot...) and drove me to urgent care/made sure I had my medicine and everything I needed to feel better.

Living at Kay’s house has truly been like living with a second family. Every week, we tried to eat a meal together during we would tell each other about our day, and we would often have pizza nights and fish taco nights with friends. I was particularly grateful for fish taco nights because they were an opportunity to get to know my friends better too.
I also got to experience American Thanksgiving for the first time, which I don’t think I would have experienced living anywhere else.

I was also very happy to have an international roommate because we were able to bond over common aspects of our experience in the US. We tried a lot of new things together and checked out places that Kay recommended.

I couldn’t have asked for a better stay for my semester abroad and I would recommend Kay’s home to anyone that wants to have a truly ‘American’ and comfortable experience. Kay is a wonderful host as she is selfless, always ready to help and eager to teach you about her culture.

Unfortunately I had to cancel my stay at Kay's house after two weeks because of the Coronavirus. Still, the short amount of time I had there was the best homestay experience I've ever had. My room (the blue one) was very comfortable and looked exactly like on the pictures. The house had everything you needed: full access to the kitchen, linens/towels, washing machine, storage roometc. Kay was also a very helpful and welcoming host - she picked me up from the airport and helped me with everything on my first days (buying a mobile phone card, grocery shopping, etc.). I also enjoyed all of the family-dinners we had together with the other roommate. I would totally recommend this homestay to anyone looking for housing in Boston/Newton and I look forward to coming back as soon as possible!

Kay is a wonderful host! She shows extensive interest in ensuring that her guests have an excellent stay while also having their own space. She is also an excellent cook- during weekly 'family dinners' every meal prepared was fresh and delicious. I would wholeheartedly recommend staying at her house to anyone looking for housing during an internship/study abroad program/residency.
