Hello! My husband Sean and I are "empty nesters" and now have extra space available in our home. We live above a studio unit - queen bed, flat screen TV, private bath, kitchenette (tea kettle, Keurig coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave, Instapot, hotplate, crockpot, mini fridge), large walk-in closet, access to shared laundry, with private entry from a gated courtyard with BBQ grill. Our location is very walkable: close to Saturday Farmers' Market, Lake Merritt, shops, restaurants, gyms, groceries (Trader Joe's), movie theater, bars, and public transportation. Oakland is a very vibrant, inclusive, and diverse city just 7 miles from San Francisco and 5 miles from Berkeley with many transportation options to get you there.
We are primarily English speakers (I speak some Spanish and a little bit of French) but I will try my best! We also have a tenant with a dog who uses the courtyard to access her fenced cottage in the back of the property. We have a dog too. Supplies for coffee/tea and breakfast (oatmeal/cereal, fruit, yogurt) are included for first few days to get you started. We are happy to provide you with recommendations and advice to help make your stay more enjoyable.

About the Area
Our house is in a walkable, centrally-located, quiet location near public transportation (AC Transit bus stop is two short blocks away, BART is 1 mile away, Lyft/Uber, and rental street bikes are plentiful). We are approximately 7 miles (just a few exits over the Bay Bridge) from San Francisco. We are also 20 minutes from Oakland International Airport (OAK) and within walking distance of beautiful Lake Merritt, a large, urban park. Saturday Farmers' Market, and many shops/restaurants/groceries/bars/movie theater are all nearby. There is plentiful, free parking on our street.

Meals
Hosts can offer a complimentary light breakfast at their discretion. All other meals, including a full breakfast, might incur an additional cost, if offered. Meals and any additional payment should be arranged directly with your host.

House Rules
We will provide a light breakfast (oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, coffee/tea) for the first few days of your stay to get you started. The kitchenette located in the unit is at your disposal for your other meals. Access to free shared laundry facilities should be coordinated with hosts and our other tenant. Please be considerate of landlords and neighbors regarding loud noises.
This unit is for the contracted guest(s) only; additional overnight guests and parties are not allowed. The unit may not be sublet to another person, and tenant may not give the house key, or a copy, to anyone else.
Cancellation policy: 7 days advance notice of cancellation is required. Homestay.com will collect a 25% deposit for your stay at time of booking. If cancellation occurs with less than 7 days' notice, this deposit will be transferred to the landlords 2 business days after your scheduled arrival. If you cancel your stay 7 or more days in advance you will be refunded this deposit.

I spent 3 weeks in Sharon and Sean’s homestay in Oakland and it became a temporary home for me. Sharon and Sean are openhearted and friendly and made me feel so welcome. They helped me in many ways; showed me around and how to get to San Francisco. We also had a nice dinner.
I lived in a well decorated, comfortable apartment with its own bathroom and kitchenette. They served me a great breakfast that I could prepare myself in the studio. There are several restaurants and a supermarket in walking distance. All in all, Oakland is a lovely place and the apartment is located in walking distance to Lake Merritt.
I had a great stay and recommend it to anyone. Thanks again for hosting me!Host reply

How do I book?
Contact the host to check their availability and ask them any questions you have about staying with them. Once the host confirms they’re available for your dates, you can complete your booking.
When do I pay?
Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) and a 25% deposit using a choice of payments: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal. The deposit is collected in advance on behalf of the host to protect against no show or late cancellations (within 7 days of arrival). You then pay your host the balance due on arrival. The 25% deposit payment is made to the host 2 business days after your scheduled arrival date. This deposit payment will only be refunded if you cancel the booking at least 7 full days prior to arrival.
When can I share my contact details?
Host and Guest email address, phone number and home address will be exchanged in a confirmation email sent to both immediately after a booking is completed. It's against our policy for Guests and Hosts to exchange direct contact details via our messaging system.
