About the Homestay
Our home is a newer 3-bed townhome in the popular community of North Park. The guest room is on the main (second) level with a semi-private bathroom (only used by the occasional visitor). A simple breakfast (with coffee or tea) is provided and you will have full use of the house, including the kitchen.
You'll be staying with my boyfriend and I, who are young-at-heart and active 50-somethings. We are happy to bring you along on some of our fun outings! I work at home so am available for help most of the time. Our home is best suited for someone who is socially independent and wants a quiet place to come to at the end of a busy day.
I've been hosting exchange students for more than 20 years and love to help each one have an incredible experience in San Diego! One of the reasons I love hosting travelers is because wandering—the world and my city—is one of my greatest passions; writing and photography are close seconds. You can find me on most of the social media outlets as The Wandering Housewife!

About the Area
We live in the VERY popular urban neighborhood of North Park in central San Diego. In fact, Forbes magazine ranked North Park as the 13th hippest place to live in the entire U.S.!
We are also close by another popular neighborhood called Normal Heights. Both of these areas are youthful, vibrant and home to some of the city's best bars and restaurants. Walk out the front door and within 15 minutes you'll arrive at lots of eateries, craft breweries, bars, coffee houses, parks, and even a small independent movie theater. There is a bus stop less than one block away. It is a generally safe area, but like all urban areas, it's "colorful" and you've got to use common safety sense.
Beaches are about 15-30 minutes by car and about 1-2 hrs by bus. Uber is a reasonably priced (and much faster) way to get there!

Our home is your home! We are very easy going, but we would appreciate if you paid attention to the following:
During the week, we would prefer quiet after 8 pm. We're up late on the weekends! And, please, no strangers in our home. There are plenty of cool places to meet them in the neighborhood.
We have a house cat who cannot go outside...we appreciate you helping us keep her safe inside.
Smoking is not allowed.
Janet is a very kind and good host and I had a really good time staying with her and her partner Ken. They both are very easy going and uncomplicated.
The apartment is very clean and is furnished with high quality interior.
I could use the kitchen, the nice patio, the washer & dryer, and the TV at any time.
I really enjoyed spending time with Janet who took me to fantastic hikes, restaurants and picnics. She always had fantastic recommendations for places to go.
I can totally recommend the place to everyone.
Janet is the perfect "host family " that you can find in San Diego.
This guest awarded the host 5 hearts but didn’t leave any comments.
Janet's home is the place to be for a homestay! It was the best decision to go in a homestay family. This family is great! From the first second it felt like home. North Park is a perfect area. It's quiet but not boring! It's near to downtown.
Janet is a wonderful woman: the best personal travel guide, a good indoor designer (the apartment looks very trendy) and she is a realy good cook. Her breakfast is delicious and healthy. In fact: she's the best host mom you can get! I'll miss this place! Thanks to Janet, Ken, Sophie & Spencer and Karma (the lovely cat)!!
We couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. From the moment you walk in, Janet’s home is incredibly beautiful and welcoming!!! She is one of the nicest and most accepting people I have met in town. My roommate and I stayed there for a long time and we totally miss it. I moved here from Alaska and my roommate moved here from Tennessee, not knowing anyone in San Diego. We were matched on a roommate app and met for the first time at Janet’s doorstep. I have never made a better on-the-fly decision in my life! By staying at Janet’s, we got to test if we were really a perfect roomie match and it’s still incredible to me that Janet accepted our crazy experiment into her home. She did whatever was necessary for us to feel comfortable and at home. Not only is she an amazing person, but she is also your at-home tour guide familiar with all of the coolest local events and venues you don’t want to miss out on.
We were also treated to amazing breakfasts each morning which looked like they were made by a personal chef. Very gourmet! I had a very stressful job, so it was the one thing I looked forward to every day! Gosh, I’m getting hungry just remembering them .
She also has a cat named Karma. I had never been a cat person until I met Karma. She is the sweetest little thing and she became our “little cat friend”. We miss her so much!
Janet is also very respectful of your privacy and you don’t feel obliged to do anything in the way that family can make you feel sometimes. She is also an artistic soul and a very open person, which makes for great conversation when you need someone to talk to.
Aside from opening her doors to us, she also gave us tips on where to find apartments and even offered me a job when I was struggling. This was more than we ever expected!
North Park is an awesome place, probably my favorite in San Diego honestly. We now live like 5 minutes from Janet because we loved the area so much.
Her family is also great! We all got together again at her home for Thanksgiving (months after moving out) and did a talent show.
I know you might be thinking this sounds too good to be true, we did too, but it’s definitely not. We shared some great memories in her home and we didn’t just meet a host, we made a friend. We couldn’t give a better recommendation than Janet’s home. Thanks Janet!!! And Homestay!
I had a really good time staying at Janet's house. Her home is lovely and you will feel really welcome their. Janet is a really good cook, it's simple but good and healthy. North Park is a really good area to discover the city, it's close to the airport, the city center and San Diego State University by bus or trolley.
I highly recommend Janet as a host, she is very kind and friendly.
