Welcome to my beautifully remodeled townhome in the popular & fun neighborhood of North Park. The guest room is spacious, comfortable, and comes with its own private ensuite bathroom. You’ll also enjoy complimentary coffee and tea, and full access to the house—including the kitchen, office, patio, living room, and dining area.
I’m an active, young-at-heart woman who works part-time from home as a graphic and website designer. My home is best suited for someone independent who’s looking for a quiet and relaxing place to unwind at the end of a busy day.
I’ve been hosting exchange students and international guests for over 20 years and love helping each one have an unforgettable experience in San Diego. Hosting travelers is deeply meaningful to me—exploring new places and sharing my city are two of my greatest joys. After spending the past four years living as an expat on the Azuero Peninsula of Panamá, I’m thrilled to be back in my hometown and excited to welcome you!

About the Area
Your home-away-from-home is in the VERY popular urban neighborhood of North Park in central San Diego, and just next to another popular neighborhood known as Normal Heights.
Both of these areas are youthful, vibrant and home to some of the city's best bars and restaurants. Walk out the front door and within 15 minutes you'll arrive at lots of eateries, craft breweries, bars, coffee houses, parks, and even a small independent movie theater. There is a bus stop less than one block away. It is a generally safe area, but like all urban areas, it's "colorful" and you've got to use common safety sense.
Beaches are about 15-30 minutes by car and about 1-2 hrs by bus. Uber is used a lot here.

And, please, check with me first about bringing strangers to our home. There are plenty of cool places to meet them in the neighborhood!
I have a super friendly dog (dog sit jobs occasionally are available if you want!).

I really enjoy the time staying with Janet and Ken. The home is very clean, well-designed, and cozy and it's very nice that they let me feel free to use most everything available such as the great speaker in the living room. Janet and Ken are very nice hosts. They care about their guests. For example, they will ask if you need extra blankets and show you how to turn on the heating system when the weather getting colder. As an international student here, I really feel at home. They sometimes share food with me which is very yummy! And...I'm missing Karma the most adorable kitty~ This is a great place to stay~RECOMMEDN IT!

Janet and Ken are an amazing host family, they are really helpful with any issues you might have and know some great spots in San Diego. They've been the best host family I could've hoped for! The area itself is really beautiful and close to a lot of great places to go out as well, and it's easy to get to other areas of San Diego from there too. Karma is the most adorable cat! Thank you so much for the wonderful stay!

I’ve never met such a great host family.
I’ve been staying with them for just 14days but
I went to hiking with Janet , drank some Kartell with Ken and Janer, and played with karma.
I could have precious time.
Everything was just great.
I’ve already miss that time and them.I could say that they are best host family.
If you choose them you’ll have lots of fun for sure.I wanna back asap!!!! Love my family.

Janet is a very kind and good host and I had a really good time staying with her and her partner Ken. They both are very easy going and uncomplicated.
The apartment is very clean and is furnished with high quality interior.
I could use the kitchen, the nice patio, the washer & dryer, and the TV at any time.
I really enjoyed spending time with Janet who took me to fantastic hikes, restaurants and picnics. She always had fantastic recommendations for places to go.I can totally recommend the place to everyone.

Janet's home is the place to be for a homestay! It was the best decision to go in a homestay family. This family is great! From the first second it felt like home. North Park is a perfect area. It's quiet but not boring! It's near to downtown.
Janet is a wonderful woman: the best personal travel guide, a good indoor designer (the apartment looks very trendy) and she is a realy good cook. Her breakfast is delicious and healthy. In fact: she's the best host mom you can get! I'll miss this place! Thanks to Janet, Ken, Sophie & Spencer and Karma (the lovely cat)!!December 2015
We couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. From the moment you walk in, Janet’s home is incredibly beautiful and welcoming!!! She is one of the nicest and most accepting people I have met in town. My roommate and I stayed there for a long time and we totally miss it. I moved here from Alaska and my roommate moved here from Tennessee, not knowing anyone in San Diego. We were matched on a roommate app and met for the first time at Janet’s doorstep. I have never made a better on-the-fly decision in my life! By staying at Janet’s, we got to test if we were really a perfect roomie match and it’s still incredible to me that Janet accepted our crazy experiment into her home. She did whatever was necessary for us to feel comfortable and at home. Not only is she an amazing person, but she is also your at-home tour guide familiar with all of the coolest local events and venues you don’t want to miss out on.
We were also treated to amazing breakfasts each morning which looked like they were made by a personal chef. Very gourmet! I had a very stressful job, so it was the one thing I looked forward to every day! Gosh, I’m getting hungry just remembering them .
She also has a cat named Karma. I had never been a cat person until I met Karma. She is the sweetest little thing and she became our “little cat friend”. We miss her so much!
Janet is also very respectful of your privacy and you don’t feel obliged to do anything in the way that family can make you feel sometimes. She is also an artistic soul and a very open person, which makes for great conversation when you need someone to talk to.
Aside from opening her doors to us, she also gave us tips on where to find apartments and even offered me a job when I was struggling. This was more than we ever expected!
North Park is an awesome place, probably my favorite in San Diego honestly. We now live like 5 minutes from Janet because we loved the area so much.
Her family is also great! We all got together again at her home for Thanksgiving (months after moving out) and did a talent show.
I know you might be thinking this sounds too good to be true, we did too, but it’s definitely not. We shared some great memories in her home and we didn’t just meet a host, we made a friend. We couldn’t give a better recommendation than Janet’s home. Thanks Janet!!! And Homestay!
