About the Area

Our house is located on the South East side of Petaluma in a very quiet and safe neighborhood with little automobile traffic. Petaluma’s central location makes it easy to take advantage of all the great attractions that are found in the Bay Area. Close to the City and the country, Petaluma is the southernmost city in Sonoma County. You will find Petaluma by driving north across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco for 32 miles. We are located just 45 minutes from San Francisco and 45 minutes from Bodega Bay on the Pacific Ocean as well as many popular wineries of Sonoma and Napa. Our home is located close to the heart of historic downtown Petaluma known for its well-preserved main street. Fabulous restaurants, unique antique and art galleries, live music and movies are all within walking distance from the center. There is an express bus stop within 2 blocks of the house that will take you directly to San Francisco. The house is located within a 5-7 minute walk from some great restaurants and cafe's as well as a small grocery store. A 10 minute walk will get you to Shollenberger Wetland Park for a great hike and bird watching. Just a short drive you will find Helen Putnam Park and Olompali State Park for some scenic hiking (see posted pictures). For the bargain hunters and shoppers, there is a Premium Outlet Center located in town.

A FEW MORE INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT PETALUMA:

The town of Petaluma offers a little slice of California history to all who come to sample its Victorian delights. As one of the few cities in Northern California spared the ravages of the 1906 earthquake, it is a rare example of what the citizens saw at the turn of the century.

The heart of Petaluma is its Victorian Historic Downtown, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. The Petaluma Historical Library and Museum offers free Historic Downtown Walking Tours led by costumed docents every Saturday from May to October. Home to more than 600 businesses, 65 historical properties, Art & Garden Festival, Victorian Holiday events and the Annual Antique Fair, Petaluma offers many colorful family events that provide opportunities to escape the everyday hustle and bustle of life.

The Petaluma River is the focal point of shops and restaurants where visitors can watch wildlife and visiting yachts. The river provides a pleasant setting for shops, restaurants, a yacht club and a snug harbor for power and sailboat enthusiasts from all over to visit. Any given weekend will find from five to 60 boats tied up at the floating docks.

The Cinnabar Theater is a charming playhouse where you may listen to an opera or watch a contemporary drama.

McNears Mystic Theater and McNears Saloon & Dining House is on the list of top 10 Nightlife Spots in Sonoma County with full bar and live music of eclectic variety from rock and blues to Western swing.

Enjoy beer? Take a tour at the Lagunitas brewery located 3 miles from the house. Enjoy their famous beers and sit down for lunch or dinner with live music.

ANOTHER INTERESTING FACT ABOUT THE PETALUMA WINE GROWING REGION:

The Petaluma Gap is the gateway to the Sonoma Coast region. The Petaluma Gap is producing premium grapes that make the Sonoma Coast Appellation one of California’s best areas to grow primarily Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah grapes.

The vineyards are tucked and hidden in the most unexpected places. Crest a hill, round a curve, look into the little nooks and crannies and you’ll notice more and more pockets of green, made up of rows and rows of grapevines. The vines bring brilliant patches of color to the golden grasses that support the neighboring pastures of cows and sheep.

The Petaluma Gap produces wines for some of Sonoma County’s finest wineries including: Keller Estate Winery, Guarachi Family Wines, deLoach Vineyards, Flowers Vineyard and Winery, Hart’s Desire Wines, Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, Kosta-Browne Winery, Landmark Vineyards, Loxton Cellars, Sojourn Cellars, Schramsberg Vineyards, and Zepaltas Wines. Come visit these beautiful wineries and sample the wonderful wines.
