What to say? One of the greatest experiences in my life, also thanks to a wonderful family. I spent for two months and a half with this family and each member has made me feel at home since the first day of my stay.
Mairead and Damien are two special people, very respectful and open-minded towards different cultures. They always helped and supported me as part of their family, as well as their beautiful children did. Mairead is always present and helpful, and each of them, with their own way of being, taught me something, introducing me to the Irish culture.
Their house is beautiful too and very spacious, and the "attic room" with its private bath is like a nest where you can study and read in complete peace. It has two large windows where you can admire the sky of Dublin at any time in all its beauty. The surrounding area is quiet and close to everything: the gym, pubs, several supermarkets (including Mortons my favorite!) and the city centre is only 5/10 mins by the Luas.
In the end, this holiday-study trip in family has been not only a way to improve my English level but, but above all a great experience of personal growth for me, beside one of Ireland's best families!
Briefly, I had a great time at Mairead's home.
I was in Dublin because of my work, and most of the 60 days time I spent with that. But it was always good to go home to a place you felt like it was a little bit yours too, or at least shared with kindness and life. Mairead and her husband are not only hosts but caring hosts.
The house and its people were really active in a good sense, of course, but exemplary organized at the same time. They made my busy stay much more comfortable. I enjoyed knowing a little more about Irish life, Irish family life. And I liked it.
I honestly recommend this homestay, and I wouldn't hesitate to return someday.
Keep it up! :)
What can I say about my stay? It was honestly fantastic. Whilst trying to avoid the cliche regarding the difficulty of moving home and career, as well as friends and family, Mairead and the entire ensemble couldn't do anymore to smooth things over!
I was greeted off of the bus and treated to a fantastic vegetarian meal which made that first night fly by! Furthermore, in terms of setting up horrendous things like a PPS number or bank account, Mairead was a lifesaver with regards to providing a proof of address etc.
The room has a lovely view of the church and the ensuite is as lovely as the bed is comfortable.
The location requires a little more thought. Then I booked it, I was hesitant regarding the location, as on a map it seems a little far out, the truth is though, especially now I live in Cabra, the location is grand. You're surprisingly close (even by walking) to the city centre, Angier Street, Temple Bar, a Stephens Green etc, and Ranelagh in itself is a really sound place with plenty of nice pubs (Tap House) and a Lidl. It is also only a 10 minute walk from Rathmines and 15 from Bernard Shaw, so in terms of nightlife/social life, there's plenty to choose from.
I should get back to work, but, I can safely say the stay is worth it as much for the house as for the people.
When we set out in search of a dream, we may leave behind our family, our home and our country. Regardless of where we go, we just want to feel like home.
When I decided to study in Ireland, I wanted to live with an Irish family for many reasons. The two most important would be the close contact with the English language and the fact that I'd be living/and being part of a family. When I found about the Corr family, I really liked their picture, because their structure (father, mother, three sons and one daughter) is a lot like mine in Brazil. In my first contact with Mairead, she asked me about my choice. I explained exactly as I described above. Months passed and the long-awaited arrival finally happened!
I am not an anxious person, and I was very calm knowing that they would host me.
Upon arriving here, I noticed that they were exactly as I thought, but with each passing day, I saw that they were much more. A beautiful, loving, educated family (the typical “margarine commercial family”, as we say in Brazil).
I think that motherhood brings maturity regardless his age. You need to make decisions, educate and give good examples. From what I see, the relationship with the children is the greatest achievement of Demian and Mairead. It is pure love and delivery (every day).
They are partners and love to play with the kids (even after a tiring day of work). In a world where children are obsessed with technology, there is still a family that can be the happiest in the world with all its simplicity.
Finally, I would like to say that you will leave here with more than what you came for (English in my case).
And if I can give you some good advice, choose the Corr family, feel at home and be happy having be the best and most rewarding experience of your life!
Thanks Damien, Mairead, Patrick, Jarlath, Senan and Alannah for all the care and attention.
A wonderful family!! I was there for 3 weeks, pregnant, abroad and far from my fiancé, and Mairead and her family were so great with me. They qre very warm, helpful, nice, and they made it very easy for me. I won't forget this lovely time I spent with them. I highly recommand you to stay with them, you'll fel like it's your home.
From the first day on I was very warmly welcomed. Mairead showed me the house and I could accompany her and the kids to the city centre. Sports play a major role in the life of this family. The garden provides opportunity to exercise as well as to relax.
If I was asked whether I would stay with Mairead and her family again, I would not hesitate a second to affirm. An open-minded and interested family that greatly manages to raise four lovely children awaits you.
Cosy place to stay, really nice family, hassle free, good price and perfect location. highly recommended!
