I had the pleasure to stay at Kyoko’s place for 9 days. Kyoko is a very kind person and loves to spend time with her guests in the afternoons and evenings. However, she is often busy during the day, so the homestay can best be enjoyed by making your own plans for the day and coming back for dinner to talk a bit with Kyoko and the other guests. Speaking of which, there are 4 other Homestay guests in the house (all foreigners) who rotate frequently, but all the ones I met had an active interest in learning Japanese.

Breakfast is served for free and usually consists of white bread with spread such as jam. Sometimes Kyoko also prepares some side-dishes, such as omelet with tomato & avocado. There is also a coffee machine you can freely use.

The building itself is new, very well maintained and close to a train station that quickly takes you to the center of Tokyo. A small gripe I had was that my room didn’t have any curtains, so the sunlight would wake me up at 6 am. I recommend other sunlight sensitive people to bring a sleep mask (you can also buy one at a 100-yen shop in Tokyo).

Otherwise, Kyoko also offers to wash your clothes which I was very surprised by. You are expected to clean your dishes yourself though (there is no dishwasher). For a small up price Kyoko will even personally cook Japanese home cuisine for you! She also offers a lot of freedom when you come and go, but she does expect you to send her a message if you intend to stay out very late so that she doesn’t need to worry about you.

In conclusion, a great place to have your homestay at, especially if you want to explore Tokyo. But don’t expect for Kyoko to take you many places as she is busy herself. You’ll get most out of this homestay by doing something yourself in Tokyo during the day and coming back in the evening to have dinner and talk with Kyoko and the other homestay guests.

Kyoko is a very gentle lady, helping me out since the moment I arrived at her home with a stomachache, to making delicious dinner every night (and not forgetting the time she took us out to eat sushi). She was always available to help me with anything I needed, be it at doing laundry or taking me to the metro station on my last day. It was truly the best hospitality I could ask for.
I vividly recommend a stay at Kyoko's place if you are going to Tokyo (also, her house is 5 minutes away from a Tokyo metro station, which makes it a very good location).
