My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time staying with Miyabi and Neil in their new home--we were their first guests, and it was our first homestay, so we were all trying to figure out the experience together. We felt welcomed into their clean, stylish home and even cooked a few meals together. I was especially interested in expanding my relatively basic understanding of Japanese language and culture, and Neil (as a UK expat) and Miyabi (as a Japan native who'd studied abroad in the US) provided some really interesting insights. They're in a small-feeling, quiet suburb, where schoolchildren in uniform fill the streets on their walks to and from nearby schools on weekdays. Most adults living there take the trains to Tokyo for work, and the area was quiet, near the beach, and had a nice grocery down the street. The immediate area had no tourist attractions and no tourist presence, but some fun places like Enoshima Island and Kamakura were just a pleasant, 15-min rail ride away.
Overall, I’d highly recommend staying with Miyabi and Neil if you’re looking for a lovely host family that you can really get to know, and you'd like to experience real daily life in Japan. On the other hand, if you’re just looking for an inexpensive place to stay, and would prefer not to interact much with your hosts, it’s probably best to look elsewhere, especially since the house is compact and you will be sharing the same bathroom. For us, our 4 night stay was a wonderful experience and just what we were looking for. Thanks Miyabi and Neil :)

Had a great time with Miyabi for the week and it's been such a pleasure to have stayed with her family. Really good and nice people! Location is superb and close to Enoshima where our sailing championship is held! Will definitely stay with them when we come here again next year!
