My Homestay - All I could ask for and more....

Tell us about your homestay experience.

Previously I have only stayed in Airbnb or Hotels, in which I am the only one there. It's my first homestay and its honestly so worth the lack in privacy to meet so many amazing new people through the homestay. Not only did I meet Yumi, I also met some of the fellow guests at the house, of which some were local Japanese and some others were tourists like me.

What did you do in Tokyo?

It wasn't my first time in Tokyo, I mostly visited shopping areas such as Shibuya and Shinjuku to name. I also wanted to visit attractions like Shibuya Sky but unfortunately, I was unable to obtain a ticket. However, I did get the fortunate chance to visit Daikoku PA in a tour group and met some amazing people there.

Any tips or advice for other travellers?

As Japan is not a native English country, I'd recommend to at least learn some basic Japanese as to communicate with the locals. It was especially useful in cases where I wanted to ask if a certain item was available. Also would really be useful to research on certain things such as train tickets and certain attractions as some may require booking a few days or weeks before the date of visit.

How was your experience with your host?

It was so amazing meeting Yumi, she was all I could ever ask for in a host and even more! She really made me feel at home. She was nice kind and friendly. Although we didn't get to talk much due to her work, the small chats we had were amazing and really enjoyed them and really wish I could have more time to get to know her and her story.
