I live alone in a typical Costa Rican house in Copan in San Ramon de Alajuela. San Ramon has all the benefits of a large city but with a small town feeling: everyone knows everyone. There is plenty to do on the weekends: going for short hikes, swimming at the community pool, going out to clubs, or heading to the mall to see a movie. There is also plenty to do in the house with neighbors and family visiting quite often!
I have been hosting volunteers and students from all over the world for over six years now and have enjoyed meeting people from many different cultures. The house has a lovely front patio which connects to the more private homestay room, with a private bathroom. Through the front door, you enter into a living room and dining area with another bedroom off one way and a kitchen off the other. Although I recommend taking taxis after nightfall, the neighborhood is very safe and none of my guests have ever been robbed while walking around in the area. I do not speak much English (a former homestay occupant is translating this), but have become very skilled in communicating through charades!

When do I pay?
Once a host confirms they're available, you can go ahead and pay the 15% booking fee (maximum of 250 $£€ for longer term bookings) using a choice of payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Laser, JCB & PayPal (not available in certain countries). You then pay your host on arrival or as stated by your host on their profile and agreed by you on booking. Please be cautious if a host requests advance payment if its not included on their profile. Our hosts have been advised that if they wish to request advance payment they must make this explicit in their profile. We do not recommend the use of Money gram or Western Union.
