About the Homestay
I live in one of Calcutta's most central and upscale areas, Ballygunge Circular Road. I've lived in this house for 40 years so it almost feels like an extension of me. It's close to everything and extremely well connected via public transport but still retains the distracted old world charm of colonial Bengal. This reflects in the food cooked too which is a mix of traditional Bengali and Indian cuisine as well as Colonial continental dishes. I am away a lot but the place is extremely well managed even when I am away. When I am around I love to share experiences and stories if guests are comfortable with it as I am a people person.
Parking for one car is available. There is a housekeeper for cleaning etc. Security is good.

Saroj is the perfect host: warm, friendly and non intrusive. She let us do our own thing while making sure we had everything we needed during our stay. We'd stay again without question, and would recommend Saroj and her comfortable home to other travellers who want a quiet home from home in the heart of the city. There is a wonderful cheap dabha less than two minutes walk away where we ate most evenings. The chai there was the best I've ever tasted.
I had a great time at Saroj place. Her place is at a perfect location, very easy to get around with public transportation and walking distance to tourist attractions. Her place is great, very clean and has everything you need. Saroj was also very helpful since the beginning, available at all times whenever I had any questions. Totally recommend it.
Saroj was a warm, welcoming and helpful host. Her spacious perhaps 60 year old flat on the third floor is light filled and clean. The is a lift in the building. For my adult daughter and I her home was well located for a conference we were attending. The bedroom was spacious with clean linens. The bathroom had the original fixtures, indeed used, but certainly effort was exerted to keep them clean and functional. Saroj helped with restaurant recommendations, a local tailor, Ola taxis and various other input that made our stay relaxed and comfortable. Should our travels bring us back to Kolkata we would stay again with Saroj in her home.
I really enjoyed my first Homestay experience. I had a lovely big, airy room with my own bathroom. The location was excellent, with restaurants nearby and easy to walk to. Saroj was welcoming & happy to share her experiences with me; & her home help delightful.
I stayed one month in the house of Saroj at Kolkata in India and it was a great moment !
The rooms are clean and tidy and the house also…but especially, it’s the warm personality of Saroj which is marvelous. Saroj is a beautiful person, who speak with you, who help you when you are in difficulties , who take care of you when you are sad or tired...and it’s very important when we stay a long time in the same place to have a place where we are respected and loved ! All the evening, it was a pleasure to go to Saroj’s home because it was like in my house: comfortable and warm…
Shamboo is so nice and so funny and with them I spend a great stay here.
When I come back at Kolkata, I come back in Saroj’s house. That’s sure….!
We stayed for 6 days at Saroj's home and it never once felt that we were away from Home. Rooms are neat and tidy. Food is simple and home cooked. Saroj ji herself is very warm and interesting person. You enjoy conversing with her. Shambhu and she were ready to help us with anything.
We could use the fridge, microwave and even her kitchen for light meals.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and worked up a much needed exercise in Kolkata walking and climbing. We would surely love to stay with her again on our next visit.
