We enjoyed our stay at Rieko and Kunio. Both are pretty nice. On our arrival day, they picked us up at the station. They frequently provided us recommendations and a cup of tea of course. We also cooked together one time. The building itself is traditional. Due to the fact the house is not made of stone, it gets colder in the room faster compared to German standard (of course it is japanese standard), but the Airconditioner worked pretty well. The house is not located in a typical touristic place. So we were able to try traditional food in restaurants with non english menus and challenged the waitresses ;). The house is located in a quite place. The train connection was pretty well.
All in all we recommend to stay at Rieko and Kunio, especially when you are the first time in Japan like us, because they do have useful tipps and are very obliging.
I had a very enjoyable stay with Reiko and Kunio. They are a warm-hearted couple, open-minded, and always ready to be of assistance should need be. I can truly recommend them as a host family.
Thank you, Reiko san and Kunio san! I wouldn't mind avail myself of your hospitality again when I am in town :-)!
Rieko & Kunio is such a wonderful hosts, i just wished i had more time to spend with them.
I felt more welcomed than in my own family, its hard to believe such nice people exits.
The moments we spent together was sublime and it will definately stay in my memories forever.
They helped me to navigate Tokyo, recomended the place i should visit, took me to the local sushi restaurnt where tourists normaly wouldnt go.
Consider yourselves lucky to stay at their house, I already envy for those who would.
I promised to them that i will be back in near future.
Reiko & Kunio is a very warm, helpful and kind couple. I felt welcomed right from the start and enjoyed my stay with them a lot:) Nerima is also a really nice and calm neighborhood and it had good connection with the subway to get to other central parts of Tokyo. I was really happy with the decision I made to stay with Reiko & Kunio and they definitely improved my Tokyo experience :)
Reiko and Kunio are wonderful hosts. They really made us feel welcome in their comfortable home and they made an extra effort to prepare a delicious vegan breakfast for us. Young at heart and open minded, we totally recommend staying with them and hope to return one day ourselves.
The homestay was beautiful, everything was neat and tidy and the owners were the most lovely people we have ever met.
Rieko and Kunio are wonderful hosts. They speak English well and they help you out in case you have a request or need something to buy. They invite you to their living room to drink tea together and are interested in your past experiences and what you think of Japan. The room was fairly big and had an AC. The house is a traditional Japanese house, if you really want to experience a traditional japanese family and home, you should choose Rieko and Kunio.
If I could give more than 5 hearts, I would do it! Staying in Rieko and Kunio's home was one of the best and most memorable experiences of my life! It was my first time traveling alone, visiting Japan, and doing a homestay, so I'm lucky to share so many firsts with such a kind couple. They went above and beyond to make me feel at home- picking me up at the station, showing me around Nerima, taking me out to eat, sharing delicious home food, watching TV together, discussing various topics, teaching me calligraphy, always checking in on how I'm doing... I could go on and on! I loved the onsen and kimono experiences as well. They really put their full heart into being hosts. It really felt like I was returning to my own home each day, and it broke my heart to leave! If you want to live with hosts who are kind, open-minded, curious, and invested in your wellbeing then I would highly recommend Rieko and Kunio as hosts. They singlehandedly made my time in Tokyo so special. Thank you, thank you, thank you! For an experience I will never forget!
My homestay with Rieko and Kunio was greater than I could have ever imagined. From the moment I arrived at Narima Station the two of them went out of their way to make me feel at home. I was moved by their kindness. We had a lot of interesting discussions about japanese culture as well as my own culture and I learned a lot from them even though my stay was quite short. I miss them already and would love to see them again one day. Maybe even in Vienna at a traditional viennese Ball ;) . My reason to come to Japan was to experience winter time in Tokyo with all ist traditions, improve my japanese skills and take a look at my future University in Tokyo. It was wonderfull and I can fully recommend staying there if you are truly interested in deeply emersing yourself in the culture.
I could not be any more happy with how my stay with Rieko & Kunio turned out! They were fantastic hosts and made my time in Japan so much more enriching. If you have never done a homestay before (like me) and are a bit concerned/don't know what to expect- don't worry! Rieko & Kunio will make you feel right at home. Also, if you are coming to Japan with the intention of studying the language, staying here is a really good idea as they are more than willing to help you practice your everyday speaking and listening skills. I have nothing but positive things to say and can't wait to catch up with Rieko & Kunio when I return to Japan :)
