We are couples Nixon and Eunice, highly and kindly welcome you to stay and with us here in Homa-Bay lake Victoria region, to be hosted in the village and be treated to typical African hospitality and generosity for the purpose of social integration and inter-cultural immersion. It will be a great honour to be with you.
Accommodation is at the family’s house, where you will be provided with bed and adequate beddings. With the host family you will be encouraged to eat local African dishes (which most people find quite appetizing!) and take part of the family life and duties.
What to do during the stay?
There are different projects and services you can take part in. Arrangements will be made for you depending on your skills and preferences. You will be the one deciding how much time (hours and days) and energy you are willing to spend on any project. As for us, we can only assure you that working as part of a community project will provide you a completely new and rewarding experience.
Examples of working places:
• Pro-active Junior Academy and Pedo primary School based in Homa-bay, where vulnerable children from the local community and orphans study, their ages range from 3-14 years old.
• Tailoring and dress making
• A local herbalist clinic working with traditional medicine practices.
• Local village farms where you have the chance to learn from local knowledge and discover the countryside of the region
• Agro-forestry and tree nursery establishment projects together with the Ministry of Forest
Your work schedule is organized that you have plenty of free time for yourself, to study local languages, read books, visit friends, interact with local people, go trekking, hiking, etc.
We also welcome even tourists who would wish to see around and lean many things, besides that we can also assist you incase you you would like to visit wildlife and need accommodation in Nairobi.
The visitor shall be informed on the type of clothes, shoes, e.t.c to carry depending on the type of climate before they make trips. The volunteer arrives at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or Kisumu International Airport where the host family shall arrange for someone to receive him/her there after directed to the buses to Homa-Bay.
In Homa-Bay the visitor shall be received by the Host family and given time to rest after the long journey till the next day where by he or she will be introduced to the members and the project activities. After that the work pattern shall be drawn on his/her choice.
The means of transport is local matatus or buses. We shall ask you to be flexible/adaptable because of the new-social economic-cultural background Africa provides but we hope it will be exciting moments and some experiences in life.

Nixon, Eunice and their three children are a real 5-star-family. The gave me a warm welcome at their house, located a few kilometers outside Homa Bay. Staying with this family is a true village experience. You should of course not expect all amenities of a city. Shower and toilet are outside, electricity is run by solar panels. But: The Wifi signal is astonishingly strong. As the house is quite small, guests should also not expect a lot of privacy. The family is eager to show guests different projects in Homa Bay that they are involved in. Altogether my homestay with them was very rewarding.
