About the Area
It's a small artistic village at the edge of the national forest. This is truly the nicest neighborhood in Chiang Mai. We are close to the city but far from all the noises and pollution, the village is filled with nice restaurants and coffee shops. The ancient temple of Wat Umong is 2 mins drive from us, there also is the famous meditation center of Wat Ramphoeng.
- Art Community and Shops-
Ban Khang Wat - a modern local art community with a small section of restaurants, coffee shops and local artisans.
Pong Noi Community House - where is possible to take a yoga or Qi Gong classes.
Somkiat Cafe - just around the corner there is a very nice coffee shop and co-working space.
Massage - there're few massage places in the village but we highly recommend to reach Ban Suan Cafe & Spa (5 mins drive) where you can get a foot massage while looking out over the mountain view on an open "porch". A delightful experience for a reasonable price.
Bicycle is a fun way to explore the area and extends your range out to more rural parts and for those willing to navigate Thai roads you can reach Nimman in approximately 10 mins and the Old City in approximately 15 mins - the road goes gently downhill on the way there, so for those feeling lazy you could always hire a Song Thaew and put your bikes on the bike to return! We have 1 hybrid bike you can use for free at the house.
The Running Track- if you fancy an early morning jog before breakfast then this could be the place for you. 5 mins walking distance there is the athletic field of the village where there is the running path or is also possible walk till the entrance of Doi Kam National Park where you can run while enjoying the beautiful landscapes of Chiang Mai University.
Doi Suthep Non-Hunting Area - a beautiful series of nature trails start by driving only 3 mins from our door. Leading to and around the area near Wat Umong this is a great place to take a stroll and a glimpse of local wildlife from wild deer, wild red cows, to exotic local birds, insects and even smaller reptiles.
- The closest temples -
Wat Pong Noi - every evening the street outside Wat Pong Noi has a good selection of street vendors. Its a great place to visit to pick up a snack or a meal take home Every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday there is a small afternoon/evening market held inside the grounds of the temple.
What Umong - one of the oldest and most beautiful temples in Chiang Mai. Partially set unground its name translates as the cave temple. It's set completely within nature. Its the number 1 attraction on Trip Advisor and can be access by 5 minute drive along the village road.
Wat Rampoeng - a beautiful temple complex with many practicing monks and outside visitors. Its one of the largest centres in Thailand for participating in Vipassana silent meditation courses and it has a real charm and ambience
Mae Hia market - not far from us (5 mins driving) there is Mae Hia a very popular market where you can find organic stands with western vegetables/fruits and a very big food court. In the same area there is Rimping super Market and groceries store, one of the few franchise in town whit a worldwide selection of products.
Muay Thai Gym - also inside the Mae Hia area so just few minutes drive from us there is the famous Hong Tong Muay Thai gym where every level is welcome, we highly recommend it.
Getting around
Taxis from the airport to the house are approx. 250 baht, or you can also get Uber, and I will supply detailed directions that you can print out and give to the driver.
The most convenient way to get around is to rent a motor scooter. Bicycle or rental car is also good (and the house has parking). The house is walking distance to the canal road, where public transportation can be hailed; but honestly, public transportation in this area of town is not the most convenient way to get around.

Very nice, clean appartment in a really beautiful area of Chiang Mai. The host, Thomas-Joseph (T.-J.), was always available to guide and show me most beautiful places and restaurants around. I was also invited by him to join his friends and once the lovely national & international community of the neighborhood. I came as a stranger but I left as a friend; wonderful experiance!
