About the Area

Umry Lodge is in Antrim - a borough that is steeped in Irish history. For more details, have a gaze through the Visitor Guide and you will be amazed at what you read. We are close to public transport and approx 5 miles from Belfast International Airport and 1.5 miles from Antrim bus & rail centre. Antrim Forum Leisure Centre is approx 5 minutes by car and has swimming pools, ten-pin bowling, state of the art fitness suites which overlook Antrim Castle Gardens, football, tennis and basketball, after all that why not relax in the state-of-the art Forum Spa? The Junction Retail and Leisure Park is approx 3 minutes by car and has a wide range of places to eat, including fast food restaurants and a 10-screen cinema. Antrim has two main golf courses, Masserene, an award winner in 2018, is about 4 minutes by car and Allen Park Sports Hub 2 minutes by car. Masserene is a challenging course covering 140 acres of mature, tree-lined fairways on the shores of Lough Neagh. Umry Lodge is within 1 hours drive of The Open Royal Portrush which this year, will hold the 148th Open Championship. Other golf clubs of similar distance include Royal County Down, Co Down, Portstewart, Co Derry, Castlerock, Co Derry to name but a few. Nearer to home, the famous award-winning Antrim Castle Gardens [which hold many events and garden parties throughout the year], has an art gallery and coffee shop and is a 5 minute walk. The 400-year old gardens include canals, ponds and avenues, a 12th century mote and a Victorian Pleasure Garden. On the shores of Lough Neagh, the Lough Shore Park is a very popular destination for both visitors and residents. If you like relaxing on the water's edge, this is the ideal place to feed the swans, walk along its many paths or why not enjoy a picnic as you watch the jet skis, boats and canoes? If you enjoy a gentle walk, there are many routes across the borough stretching from the north-eastern shores of Lough Neagh to the Belfast Hills. These walking routes are highlighted in the Visitor Guide. Another walking attraction is about 4 mins by car - Six Mile Water and Mill Race Trail which start from the Lough Shore Park, total walking distance is 10 km - you won't notice the distance as you will be steeped in tranquility! About 10 mins by car, you can visit the Randalstown Viaduct walkway and cycle path. The viaduct was built in the 18th century and has 9 arches. The top of the viaduct is now a cycle/walkway path and gives visitors a spectacular view of Randalstown, the River Maine and Shane's Castle. After all that walking, why not sight see on water? All aboard the Maid of Antrim for a relaxing exploration of Lough Neagh. The Maid of Antrim has been recently restored to her former glory and you can pick a 1 or 2 hour cruise during which you can buy drinks and snacks. Or, you can climb aboard to Island Warrier and explore Ram's Island any Saturday in July and August. Antrim is also home to The Round Tower, a 10th century stronghold and the Barbican Gate, built in 1813 and was the main entrance to the town. The Old Courthouse, standing proudly in the middle of Antrim town, has been transformed many times and today it is a perfect place in which to sit back, enjoy a coffee and a snack and watch the world go by. At night it holds events/concerts etc and has a licensed bar. Umry Lodge is an ideal starting point for sightseeing on the Wild Atlantic Way, attending The Open at Royal Portrush and day trips to The Titanic Quarter Belfast which is approx 45 mins by train. Causeway Coastal Tours are an excellent way of discovering the history of Northern Ireland and visit places like Bushmills Distillery, Carrick-A-Rede Rope Bridge and the Giant's Causeway. Glens of Antrim and The Dark Hedges, filming location of ‘Game of Thrones’ are all easily accessible by car or you can take a guided bus tour provided by Belfast Guided Tours.
